The best thing about "The Vampire Diaries" is that every aspect is incredible. The acting is fantastic, the writing witty, the stories absorbing - and the music amazing. Every week has one song or more that defines a scene in the show, and this soundtrack brings many of those moments. For example, "Bloodstream" recalls a moment from the season one finale that was one of the most talked about moments of the show, while "Sleep Alone" instantly brings back one of the most suspenseful parts of the seventh episode. But the best part is how varied the tracks are. "We Radiate" has a disco-like sound to it, while Placebo's cover of Kate Bush's song "Running Up That Hill" is more indie rock, and the original score pieces by Michael Suby are haunting and beautiful.

What makes this soundtrack stand out, in my humble opinion, is how true it is to the tone of the series. Every track has the sound and texture of a "TVD" moment, and this album is an excellent addition to the show. But you don't have to be a show watcher to enjoy the songs (although for anyone interested, "The Vampire Diaries" is highly recommended quality TV). Don't let the cover art fool you - this CD stands on its own.

Disclaimer: I have never watched "The Vampire Diaries." It's one of those hundreds of TV shows I plan to get around to watching sometime.

But I don't plan to wait to listen to the music. In fact, nobody with a taste for good music should hold off on "The Vampire Diaries: Original Television Soundtrack," an onslaught of brilliant alternate rock (Silversun Pickups), pop (Bat For Lashes) and a tinge of electronica (Goldfrapp). Lots of beats, lots of strong melodies, and lots of great remixes.

The album opens with a trickling, delicate melody called "Stefan's Theme," which sets a suitably haunted atmosphere for... you know, a soundtrack based on a VAMPIRE show. After that, we're hit by a trio of rock anthems: Placebo's brooding, haunted "Running Up That Hill," the Silversun Pickups' buzzing whirling rocker "Currency of Love," and the murky beat-heavy "Hammock" by the Howls.

Then the soundtrack dips into softer songs: fragile little ballads (Digital Daggers, Stateless, Plumb), dramatic pop anthems (Sounds Under Radio, Mads Langer), gleaming chilly techno (Goldfrapp), earthy acoustic guitar ballads (Jason Walker), blazing zwippy pop-rock (Sky Ferreira), and a creepy finale by Michael Suby that flickers between dark urgency and delicate eeriness.

The best songs: the nimble electro-riddled "On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix)" by Gorillaz, the Smashing Pumpkins' lean blazing "Fellowship, and Bat For Lashes' "Sleep Alone," which is remixed with a darker edge, strong beats and great cloudy swathe of synth.

Rock, indie pop, electronica, and some solid remixes that enhance the quality of the original. Honestly, there isn't a single song on "The Vampire Diaries: Original Television Soundtrack" that I dislike, which is a rarity for any soundtrack.

I have always thought the music on the Vampire Diaries was appropriate and beautiful. When I found out there was a soundtrack I knew that it was a must have. The music is incredible, in fact, there isn't one song on the album that I don't love. There are some surprisingly fun tracks like "Obsession" by Sky Ferreira and "Head Over Heels" by Digital Daggers, but if you want a CD to listen to that is emotionally powerful and great for when you are in more of a mellow mood, this is the one for you.

I think the only problem is that the show has SO much music that it's going to be hard getting a lot of it onto a soundtrack, but this is a very full CD and quite representative. I had some songs already from artists like Placebo and Bat for Lashes.

The show has only released one soundtrack...just one. It would have been nice if they had released a soundtrack for each season, then maybe they would have a better representation because they've featured some awesome music. Of course, if the artist isn't willing to offer up their music, then what is the music producers to do? I bought the soundtrack, which was a good start, but have filled in with mp3s of my favorites and now have an incredible TVD playlist.

I love Soundtracks as when well done, they feature an eclectic selection, as well as introduce one to acts one may otherwise have missed. "Vampire Diaries" comprises songs that have featured in the TV series of the same name. I haven't watched it but still find this hugely enjoyable.

A few of my favourite artists are here; Placebo turn in a creepier slowed down piano-sprinkled cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", Bat For Lashes sings the haunting "Sleep Alone (909s In The Darktimes Mix)" (it appeared on her "Two Suns" CD in a more subtle version), Goldfrapp sing the upbeat synth Pop "We Radiate", Plumb sing the lush piano ballad "Cut", Smashing Pumpkins sing the electro Rock "The Fellowship", and Gorillaz sing "On Melancholy Hill (Feed Me Remix)" (a clubby version of a song that appeared on their "Plastic Beach" CD).

Other standouts are "Stefan's Theme", a delicate instrumental by Michael Suby, the groovy rocker "Currency Of Love" by Silversun Pickups, the absolutely enchanting "Hammock" by Howls (my favourite), Sky Ferreira on the jittery electropop "Obsession", the swirling ballad "Head Over Heels" by Digital Daggers, and the piano ballad "Down" by Jason Walker".

This is one collection with a bite (pardon the pun).
