I really loved the premise of this series and wanted to enjoy watching all the kings find their respective queens. However, I found myself struggling through this book and in the end I had no real pleasure from reading it and it is very unlikely I would ever pick up the next installment.
Evie Farrow is a paranormal romance author and has always been intrigued with everything and anything supernatural, specifically vampires. Even though she believes that the supernatural is fiction, she cannot help but feel as though everything else is so normal and insignificant. Then one day, while attempting to write another book in her favorite coffee shop, she encounters a man she couldn’t even dream up in her most wildest fantasies.
Roman D’Angelo is a three thousand year old vampire king who has been having visions of this women for a few weeks now. He knows he must find her and soon but it comes sooner than he thinks when a warlock threatens her and he is forced to bring her into the world faster than he or she could ever imagine.
Sadly, there was not much about this book that I really enjoyed except for the premise. The relationship between Evie and Roman was extremely superficial and I had a hard time even believing they had an interest in each other let alone loved one another. Furthermore the random POV shifts was, to say the least, beyond confusing and I had a hard time figuring out what the point of them were. In fact, there didn’t really seem to be a point as they were quite useless and I could have completely skipped them and would have still followed the somewhat confusing and unfocused plot.
There were also a lot of unanswered questions in this book especially concerning what Evie actually was. They kept mentioning that she was not 100% human but they never investigated or answered what she was and seeing as how the next installment is a different king and queen, I wonder if we will ever know what she is.
I wish this book was better, I do, but there was just so much going on, not enough questions answered, and way to man POVs for it to be a good book. Sometimes books are hit or miss but I am really actually sad this was a miss for me because I truly would have enjoyed reading about all the kings finding their queens but now I just don’t think I have the effort or the patience to ever continue this series.
Evelynn Farrow, or Evie, is a romance writer who has no romance of her own. She works hard to allow her to send money to her parents and she also volunteers at an animal shelter. Late at night she writes her books that are filled with the handsome, charismatic men that she craves but has no time for, even if she could find one. She does not know the danger she is in. When a man saves her life, not once but twice, she is suddenly thrust into a world she never dreamed of. A world with vampires, warlock, and werewolves - oh my.

I liked the characters and got involved in the story and found it was believable as a theory of two worlds existing side by side. The story moves on well with not too much detail or too many characters to become confusing.
It was a teensy bit of a teenager's fantasy of love and love-scenes but not to any extent that made me feel too old and jaded for the story!
I shall continue with this series of books too to hear everyone's tale as the author has piqued my interest.
I only take time to review books I enjoy and I enjoyed this one.
This is the first bookin the Kings series, although it is really a spin off from the The Big Bad Wolf Romance Compilation (Bundle: Books 1-4) , it would be best to read this series first, as people from that series are also featured in this book. Having said that this story is far better IMO. I loved the characters here they were well described, all of the vampire males are gorgeous, Roman most of all his power and appeal are addictive. Evie is a woman who doesn't have many personal relationships, she looks after her parents who are in bad health. She has always dreamed of meeting a man like the characters she writes about. Someone more than just human. In that she gets her wish. This is a fast moving well paced story the chemistry between Roman and Evie is electric. There are also teasers in this as to what might be in the upcoming book. A very enjoyable read.
Charles is after revenge, roman killed his friend and wants to hurt him the only way possible, by getting to Evie.
The vampire king is brilliantly written, romantic, sexy and full of twists and turns. Although you don't need to, it would help to read the big bad wolf series first by heather killough-walden (trust me it is a brilliant read and lead me onto this), as some of the characters will reappear. I was seriously mesmerised and I CAN NOT WAIT till the next installment...... Please hurry
Favourite line in the book: Roman to Evie - in the thousands of years I have existed, evelynne, I have never felt about a woman what I feel for you.
There are a couple of baddies one named 'Charles' and the other called Ramses. It's really refreshing to have characters from the big bad wolf series having cameo roles and you can get a further understanding of plots which happened in previous books such as the spell from big bad wolf series where Roman has aided the werewolves with the downfall of the warlock Wrathye. So it is clear in book 2 Dannai the witch/ healer will have a bigger role and no doubt her gorgeous hubbi Luke Cage will be there 2 rescue with the clan of wolves involved.
A fantastic read and I wait in anticipation for book 2.
I have thoroughly, THOROUGHLY, enjoyed this book. I have adored this story of author Evie, her trials and tribulations with life; her explanation of Amazon & Kindle to her elderly Pop and, best of all, her hopes, as a 'human' that there is something more, something magical, in our world (and the wonderful bit about Malcom Cole, very post modern - I am hoping that Evie, in a future book, gets to meet her hero because it will be one terrific shock to the starstruck writer). I really rather envy Ms K-W and her writing.
My only complaint, and this may be my error, is that there are some unanswered questions about Evie (and I really don't want to say too much here so as not to spoil it for anyone who may peruse my review) but I have downloaded the next book in this awesome series and am hoping that the answers I seek may be with the next King otherwise will have to read this one again in case I missed something.
Must go now, I have the Phantom King to digest ... and sod the ironing !!!!
However, don't think you have had to read the other series, you don't, it stands alone as a great read, and I eagerly await the next in the series. The only criticism I have is that I read it in virtually one sitting, although I didn't sleep, every time I put it down, my brain was ruminating on what I had read, and I HAD to return to it. I love the way it links to the previous series, and hope we don't have to wait too long for the next instalment in The Kings.
The Vampire King is the 1st book in this new series - and what a series it's going to be.
Roman is a fantastic character - he's the perfect Vampire King. Evie is a very likeable 'heroine' and really good for Roman.
A fab plot with great characters (love Lalura & her tea!!), action, twists & passion.
Even if you haven't read any of the books in the Big Bad Wold series pick up The Vampire King and give it a go..... you won't be disappointed!!!
I actually could not get this book out of my head, and trust me doing a 10 hour shift whilst thinking about a book is complete torture.
I'm looking for to the next book and will let u know but if this I s the start then we are heading in the right direction :-).
