Product Description

Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines delivers a new type of RPG experience-one that blends all the core elements of a traditional RPG with the graphical richness, immediacy and brutal combat of a first-person action game. The game plunges players into the dark and gritty vampire underworld of modern-day L.A. as a creature of the night. Players will develop their character's powers, interact with other characters and embark on story-driven quests as they battle mortals and other vampires with an incredible array of vampire powers and weapons. Powered by Valve's Source Technology, the game is based on White Wolf's popular Vampire: The Masquerade pen-and-paper RPG series and its official clans.

This should have been a 5 star game if it wasn't for the fact that Activision played the vampire here by leaving the game and Troika it's developer bleed to dead.
From what I had read on the www the game was left in it's bugged state by Activision but a modder named Wesp5 has been working for years fixing things up. (look for a patch called "Unofficial english Patch 8.7 by Wesp5")

Currently 20 hours into the game and have to say that for a game this age it actually looks quite decent on 1080p. (build on same engine as Half-Life)
Start by picking your preferred Vampire from 7 different classes each with their own pros, cons and looks.
After that you are free to explore the first city and do main and side quests at your own pace and building up your skills as you gain quest experience.
Later cities get opened up after doing certain quests.
As long as you don't mind dated graphics this game is great for RPG players and probably also works well for those into action RPG.

As usual with most RPG games.. save often (but try to avoid saving while a discipline is active as I noticed some minor problems when loading that save)

Only reason I'm not giving this five stars is because of the steam service. The game you'll notice fast, does not work on steam right out of the box.

However, the fix for this is simple and easy. Just look for the unofficial patches, install, and then play. I can understand why all these errors kind of annoy people, and I agree that Steam shouldn't be selling it in it's current state.

All that said, game is still worth it. Offers a great deal of interesting lore, incredibly wonderful and memorable characters, in-depth character creating, and offers a ton of replay value because you'll want to play the game with multiple vampire clans. This whole game is a reminder that the vampire genre still has great potential, even after Stephanie Meyer went and stepped all over it. You won't find glittering vampires here...only an original mythos and an exceptionally complex and memorable cast of characters.

I bought this game about a year ago directly from steam, and I have not regretted it at all. Is it a pain to get working? yes, but you have to take into account that it is an old game, one that was rushed to release at that. If you are able to look past the fact that you have to patch it and work with it to make it work (And there are many tutorials online to make it work), then what you will find is a wonderful role playing game. The gameplay is fun and engaging and the humor is still funny even though this game is very old. If you want to see some gameplay I would recommend watching helloween4545's lets play to see why this game is so damn fun. As for this being a steam only title, that makes sense when you know that this was one of the first games that used valve's source engine. In the end if you are willing to put in the effort, then you will be rewarded with a fun game, especially if you choose the patch with the extra content, because it restores content that had to be cut out from the commercial release due to time time constraints.

Vampire the masquerade bloodlines or vtmb for short is an older game. With that there is a problem with the newer systems but if you get it to work i recommend youtube and the patch v9 it is highly addictive. I stayed up for 36 hours playing this game after purchase. With that being said there are a few hiccups with this game in that it is old and dated there may be some points where you need to restart the game to the last save because of some small reason or another. But all in all this game is good and should be played there are many different roles you can play with extreme backgrounds on each type of character you can play worth the money. As for graphics in this game I thought they were pretty well done but they are dated so it will be looking like a ps2 or ps1 game but if graphics are the selling point of the game then why buy a game at all buy it for the playability and uniqueness of the game that's my motto and if you ever wondered what it would be like to be a vampire this game gives you that ability.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is one of the true cult classics of PC gaming. The studio that made it never got to do anything else and the thing is unplayable unless you go look up the fan patch, but with a little bit of work put in it is a great RPG.

One of the best things this game does is getting the player into the old World of Darkness setting with amazing efficiency. It starts you out with no clue what the hell is going on but manages to, by the end of the game, have you run afoul of vampire mystics, a golem, a werewolf, a wereshark, religious zealots bent on killing vampires, far eastern spirits who come off as vampires, and a 400 year old vampire who I still think is actually some kind of alternate universe form of Bender from Futurama in all the best ways.

The best part is that all of this stuff manages to happen but the game never feels like it is an exposition dump. As the player you are eased into the weirdness relatively slowly at first, and it is not until you have done quiet a bit of the main quest that you run into this weirdness, by which point some of it has been hinted at.

For example, the werewolves are alluded to on two occasions before you come anywhere close to meeting them, same with the far eastern spirits. So while you are working out what to do about the current plot of you having to blow up some building or help sort out a sibling rivalry seeds are being planted of some new element of the story.
