I decided to read this book partly because the description of the heroine indicated that at least physically Abigail wouldn't be the stereotypical heroine found in most romance stories. I liked that she was a plus sized girl who possessed qualities that transcended mere outward beauty. I sympathized with her for the horrors she endured as a child and empathized with her for the emotional wounds she must have incurred because she didn't possess a figure that "society" considered desirable/attractive. I admired her quiet strength, unselfish kindness and her ability to forgive. As for Val, although I whole heartedly agree that his initial words to and about Abigail were decidedly cruel, I still tend to think that most people deserve a second chance. Val's character wasn't really described vividly enough for me to determine what he looked like or whether he was "drool" worthy. In fact, everyone's character development left a lot to be desired which left all the characters, except maybe Abigail, seeming one dimensional. I thought that the plot was interesting and the writing was okay. I do wish that the author's writing style was more vivid. There are several rather nondescript loves scenes on par with what one would expect to find in most YA type stories. They lacked the vividness, "transportiveness" and provocativeness that I prefer. There was some action, adventure, and a wee bit of humor. DOES END IN A CLIFFHANGER. Despite it's shortcomings, I quite enjoyed the story and I do plan to read the next book in the Series to find out what happens to Abigail and Val. I gave it 4 stars b/c under amazon's rating system 4 stars mean "I Liked It."
After reading quite a few of the reviews for the second book, I decided that it probably wouldn't be worth spending $2.99 to read it.
Abby is a woman that has face many cruelties in her life that has left her feel lacking in all ways. However, this is far from the truth. When she find herself in a different world from her own, she learns just how strong and desiring she really is.
I love how the author didn't push a lot of information onto the read and Abby. She gives just enough to let you understand what has happen to Abby and to calm Abby nerves. This helps with the flow of the book.
I recommend you grab it.
But that the male "hero" is being insulting and find the heroine lacking, fat and ugly is even more repelling for me.
The angle of execution is just bad. She could not have been his type, simple but her strength of character making her more attractive in time. But no need to describe her as fat, having double-ass, like it is said. It's annoying and not pleasing to read. I can't identified myself in a character like that. And it kills the reading.
Lot of work to be done.
