“Vampires Never Cry Wolf” Book #3 (Dead in the City Series) Sara Humphreys

Wow! Just Wow! I honestly have to say “Vampires Never Cry Wolf” is my fave of the Dead in the City series thus far. You will remember Prince Bane (werewolf) and his two body guards David and Ivan were introduced in book #2 “Vampire Trouble.” Now even though there has been a treaty in place between the Vampires and Werewolves for a few centuries it was tenuous at best. The Vamps still didn’t trust the wolves and vice versa. So in Vampire Trouble when it was learned that the Prince was going to be taking up residence in New York to expend his business the Vamps were none too pleased. My comment in my review of Vampire Trouble towards the end was I wonder who he’s interested in.

So here is where Vampires Never Cry Wolf comes in. Sadie Pemberton is now the new owner of “The Coven.” When Olivia became pregnant and had her little girl she finally realized she could not run a bar, be a Mommy and be the Czar of the New York Vampires. Something had to give. And so it was “The Coven.” With Sadie at the helm things were running smoothly. Business was up and she had a killer DJ Justine who was packing the house. Everything seemed perfect with one little exception. The Wolves. Seems every night Killian and his two Body Guards frequented the club and had their own table in the VIP section. With them there every night some of the local vamps stop coming in. They didn’t want to be in the same proximity with werewolves. Sadie’s sisters would joke around with her saying he had an interest in her. But it was a well-known fact that vampires and werewolves never mingled, and with Prince Killian, next heir to the thrown that wasn’t going to happen. Or was it?

4.5 stars!

Every once in a while, I dare to read a book outside of my usual comfort zone. For example, urban fantasy and paranormal romance are not often books I read. That said, I absolutely loved this book. I was lured in with the promise of kick ass vampires, sexy werewolves, and nightclubs and all of those things definitely delivered.

This book is the third in a series, but can be read alone. I hadn't read the first two books in this collection, so this was my first introduction to this cast of characters. I loved them. Well, I liked them. I loved Killian. He is exactly what I look for in a romantic lead. He's strong, powerful, devastatingly handsome, and stubbornly loyal. He had me hooked from the first time that he set foot into Sadie's bar. Speaking of girls enamored by him, I really liked Sadie too. I thought she was strong and smart, though at times her pushing Killian away irritated me with how long it went on. Regardless, I loved them together and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them figure out their dangerous and forbidden relationship.

A relationship that is most definitely and satisfyingly sexual. I had never read Sara Humphreys' books before, but I will say that woman can write one hell of a sex scene. They were steamy and primal and helped to understand the lust (and blood lust) and passion that these two have for one another. These scenes were very well done.

I liked the world building as well. It was cool hearing about how the governments/societies of the paranormal creatures work. I'd love to go for a drink at either Loup Garou, the wolf club, or The Coven, the vampire club. The people and the places sound fascinating, and they are blended in well with the normal mortal world.

Taking a chance, I read Vampires Never Cry Wolf having never picked up a Sara Humphreys book before. I was pleasantly surprised to have found a unique take on the vampire/wolf world. I was able to pick up on the storyline without losing too much in the fray, but I still had a few questions that needed answered, and since I loved this book so much, I did not feel a hardship in wanting to read the rest of the series.

Sadie Pemberton is a two centuries old vampire who has recently bought her best friends and makers nightclub, The Coven. As the former weekend DJ for the club, she was already acquainted with the employees, who also just so happened to be her vampire siblings, and she could not let Olivia sell the popular night spot to a stranger. After taking proprietorship over the business, she begins having a very different sort of clientele than she is accustomed to. The werewolf prince, Killian Bane, the only werewolf alive with the knowledge that could ruin their happy family, has taken over a booth in the VIP section, and he does not appear to want to let it go. Her professionalism and the desire to have her sisters secret safe keeps her from lashing out, but her dislike for werewolves leaves her at a comfortable distance. She cannot deny how physically attractive she finds his wolfish grin and the way her stomach flutters with butterflies when he is around. Can she overcome her hatred of the wolf to succumb to her desires?

Killian Bane has left his existence in Alaska to begin his own business in Manhattan that is not a part of his father’s empire. Using the excuse that he would like the assistance of Sadie in opening his own nightclub, he slowly begins the challenge of sating his desires with the sexy dark haired female vampire.
