About the Author
Kerrelyn Sparks is the bestselling author of the Love at Stake series, which has hit as high as number 5 on the New York Times list and 22 on the USA Today list. Kerrelyn is honored that her band of merry vampires and shifters is spreading love and laughter worldwide in fourteen different languages.
When New York Times bestselling author Pamela Palmer's initial career goal of captaining starships didn't pan out, she turned to engineering, satisfying her desire for adventure with books and daydreams, until finally succumbing to the need to create worlds of her own. Pamela lives and writes in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
Amanda Arista was born in Illinois, grew up in Corpus Christi, and lives in Dallas, but her heart lies in London. When not writing, she often dreams of co-opening an evil bakery and selling despicable desserts. She spends her weekends writing at coffee shops, practicing for the day that caffeine intake becomes an Olympic sport, and plotting character demises.
Kim Falconer was born in Santa Cruz, California, where she wrote her first story at age five. It was about a Halloween cat! From then on she proceeded to daydream her way through school. Fortunately, she now daydreams for a living on the beautiful Australian coast.

"V is for VampWoman" is a typical silly but entertaining story in the Kerrelyn Sparks style of her Love At Stake series, fluffy, light, funny, and entertaining. Pamela has been somewhat of a coward all of her long life and Mikhail has never run from anything in his life. They make the perfect mismatched couple, great story. 4/5 Stars
"A Forever Love" has the potential to be one of the best stories in the book, from a romantic sense anyway BUT the author decided to leave us with a unresolved love story and when I wrote her to ask if it would be completed in the next Vamp City book she basically said she did not know if it would ever be revisited???? WTF? So if you like a great love stories that has no real ending other than what you can dream up on your own, this is your book. In my opinion I was frustrated with the lack of a resolution so 2/5 maybe a bit more since it was a good story.
"First Dates Are Hell" is possibly the most entertaining story in the book since it had a lot more humor and some very interesting characters and read like a complete story. Valiance is a loner by choice, he has gotten used to being alone but for some reason Esme has some pull on him that he can't let go. Great story and was so good I am going to have to find out more about this author and it turns out I have the first 2 books of the Urban Panther series which this story takes place in my unending TBR stack. 4.5/5
"Blood and Water" - This was a great story but it takes place in San Francisco of the early 1900s, which is not my favorite but has little effect on the quality of this story.Read more ›
V is for VampWoman by Kerrelyn Sparks - This is typical silly Sparks fare. Prim and proper Lady Pamela, who has been a reoccurring character in the series as part of Roman's former harem, gets her HEA with 'barbarian' Mikail, when she decides it's time to be brave and join the fight against the Malcontents. As I said, I just wasn't in the mood for silly and I actually have found most of the harem ladies to be annoying in the previous books - I did like the barbarian vamp even though his is every bit as much of a caricature as the leading lady. 3 stars - okay
A Forever Love by Pamela Palmer - There is a good chance that I might have actually liked this story if I hadn't read the first book in the series that this short it connected to. I brought a lot of baggage with me, since Palmer's Vamp City with its nightmare vamps who feed on emotion (I found the fear and pain feeders truly disturbing) was one of the few books that I truly did not like. Another minus is that this story doesn't have a HEA to its romance, but then again this series is more UF than PNR. 3 stars - okay
First Dates Are Hell by Amanda Arista - After a rocky start with the two stories I didn't care for, my absolute favorite in this anthology was this story by Amanda Arista set in her Urban Panther world. I really liked the 'best worst date' for a lonely vampire and it made me want to pull her other books off of the pile. Finding a new author is one reason that I love these anthologies, even if I don't love all the stories. 4.5 stars - I really liked it
Blood and Water by Kim Falconer - This last story was okay but odd by a new to me author. It had merpeople that felt like vamps but the setting was interesting - San Francisco just before the Golden Gate bridge was built. 3.5 stars - pretty good.
This story is the reason that I purchased this book. I adore the Love at Stake Series, Kerrelyn Sparks keeps it fresh and her stories are pure magic.
The story of Lady Pamela and Mikhail is sweet and enduring. I was glad to see that Lady Pamela found the courage and ability to trust again. Mikhail has always been an outstanding warrior; it was nice to see the softer side of his character. We are reminded that the heart is the strongest and the weakest muscle in the body, and what strength it takes to use it.
I am looking forward to following the lives of these two in the upcoming Love at Stake books.
A Forever Lover by Pamela Palmer
This story caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting a alternate plane, but it was an amazing surprise. Magic, Pain Vampires, Pleasure Vampires and their slaves all living in 1800s Washington D.C. is so cool.
I loved the characters, with the modern Elizabeth and the honorable Lukas protecting her and loving her. The setting is so ingenious. Now I find myself wanting to check out more of Ms. Palmer's books.
First Dates Are from Hell by Amanda Arista
This is a pleasing supernatural short story. The characters are superb, the setting caught me off guard, the mixture of old world and modern world was so startlingly brilliant, I completely loved this story.
Valiance is a southern gentleman warrior, who doesn't want to compromise his values or give up his choices. Esme is sheltered, wasn't given the knowable knowledge, and must make her choices fast. She is a refreshing, strong and courageous heroine.
I like the Prima Violet character's attitude, compassion and ability to lead. I will definitely be picking up more books by Amanda Arista.Read more ›
