The story was very believable, details about the vampires living on the forest-covered hills that belonged to Woodhaven Inn were reasonable and not too grandiose like in the movies.
There was just the right amount of romance without being too erotic and background details for the storyline were provided enough to make the story clear and easy to follow.
The main character (Sarah Brightman) has a well developed personality and her reactions to the discovery of vampires and her job as their warden were lifelike and appropriate to how a real person would probably react.
There are some unexpected turns in the story enough to make it a delightful weekend read.
Also, the book is listed at 201 pages, but there isn't a chance in hell that's accurate. I'm a fast reader, but even I can't cover 201 pages in two hours, which is about what it took me to read this start to finish. I'm thinking more like 130. Then it ends on a fairly precipitous cliffhanger with a lot of open threads. All in all, there was some great potential here and if the sequel had been particularly cheap I might have picked them up to see where the story goes, but I think it could have done with a bit more bulk.
First she meets Alex. An ex vampire (somehow his undead condition can be reversed). Then she meets Micheal, a vampire who has lived on her property since her dad was a child.
Sarah finds out her family are wardens to a field of sleeping vampires, and Micheal who was sentenced there for some wrongdoing.
This is the first book of a series, so we don't really get all the answers to what is happening. How a vampire, or anyone for that matter, could live on your property under your nose for 20+ years is something I don't understand.
Sarah believes she has many friends. But they all knew and kept important secrets from her. The vampire field, her dad's responsibility as warden, her mother changing to vampire and still being alive.
I found this story a nice way to pass some time, but wasn't really thrilled with the plot.
I would encourage you to read this book. It does have some very interesting qualities. I believe it is important to support an author in their desire to grow in and perfect their chosen craft. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I don't believe it will be the last.
Sarah learns she is the gate keeper of an ancient vampire resting place... There are mysteries about the vampire Michael and the council that sent him there...
The characters were kind of wooden to me and I had trouble liking them. The premise was very interesting but it was so poorly executed that I had trouble finishing the book. I found it difficult to like many of the characters and I didn't care what happened to Sarah.
This book had promise but really didn't seem ready for publication. I don't know if this was the author's first book or not, but I would strongly encourage you to consider a rewrite. I really wanted to like this book.
