What other label [besides Cleopatra] would even consider releasing a CD like this? Fourteen tracks of heavy metal and hard rock musicians (mind you) putting together a collection of Han Halen classics - in a techno direction. Not necessarily a bad disc - it's okay to listen to a couple of times now and again. Tunes that I sort of liked were Jack Russell and Dweezil Zappa and their KMFDM remix job on "Unchained", the super-techno sounding Pretty Boy Floyd with with their Razed In Black remix "Ain't Talking About Love" - this track may drive some old school Van Halen fans nuts, the so-so Bruce Kulick and one-time Motley Crue member John Corabi and their Astralasia edit for "Hot For Teacher" and the Bullet Boys frontman Marq Torien's - Intra-Venus remix of "Feel Your Love Tonight". Myself, I would much rather listen to the real thing. As I did happen to notice plenty of negative reviews of this VH tribute title, I honestly couldn't say as to who might actually like it that much. Upside here is that at least Amazon allows you to listen to thirty-second sound snippets of each cut before you decide if you wish to purchase it. Might make a good gag gift for someone who had unjustly wronged you in the past.

First of all, I think that the concept of this album is really cool. I don't understand all the bad reviews saying "This is just remixes of old VH." Of course it is...that's the whole point. These are the people who shouldn't even be interested in buying the CD. If you're not open to electronic music, don't even consider this CD, because you will just be disappointed. I, on the other hand, knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought it and will review it as such.
The problem I have with this album is the cover bands doing the songs. There is one underlying theme in most of electronica: no vocals. They aren't traditional songs with verse and chorus, and unfortunately sound pretty bad when someone tries. In almost all of the songs on this album, the beats are really cool. They experiment with the guitars and the song melody real well. The problem is when the vocals come in. They just sound out of place with all the techno in the background. The best song on here is Hot For Teacher because they don't try to sing all the lyrics. It is the type of song you would hear at a club and think, "That sounds like they were trying to do Van Halen."
I'm not recommending the album, but this is not because it is electronic VH. I think that a remixed album with songs "inspired" by VH tunes would be a lot better than VH covers with a beat in the background.

Well, after reading all of these people trash this cd, I decided to buy it and judge for myself. Boy was I surprised... and I also had a realization that you can never take anybody's word for ANYTHING without experiencing it for yourself. I'd like to say, first off, that if you're looking for "faithful" versions of VH songs, do not come here. You should probably get the other tribute the dude below mentions or just listen to old VH... because you're obviously not looking for anything new. Second, you should probably be familiar with some of the bands that do the remixing on this disc as well as the nature of Cleopatra's previous tribute compilations. I mean, who would buy this cd just on the fact that it has Dweezil Zappa and Pretty Boy Floyd doing old VH tunes? True, the sound your getting is pretty much that of the remixer, rather than of the band being remixed, but still, the results are very interesting and cool. Especially, the KMFDM remix of Unchained, the Electric Hellfire Club's remix of Little Guitars (really trippy...) and the Spahn Ranch remix of Everbody Wants Some! These bands are the real reason to buy this disc! Check out Covered in Black (a Cleopatra AC/DC tribute...) for more of the same experimentation... Don't be a sheep... make your own decisions!

If you're looking for "pure" Van Halen, this CD isn't it. Instead, you have stumbled across a wide range of diverse artists singing Van Halen tunes, each with his/her own style. Interesting at best, it's not VH like you've ever heard, unless you're fortunate enough to own "Everybody Wants Some!" by Cherrydisc Records. The best way to describe this CD is to say it this way: You'll recognize the lyrics, and you can dance to this, if you'd like.

Let me start of by saying I love VH, techno music, and remixes of songs. However this Cd is soo butchered its like a crappy DJ made this for his first ever remix set. The techno over powers the lyrics in more than one song. There are only a few songs that have the entire lyrics in them , otherwise they are just poor cuts and loops. If you were to seperate the techno and the covers you would have two good seperate cd's.Dont get me wrong I liked the versions of "Runnin w/ the devil"and "Unchained" not much more than that though. Maybe next tribute will be a little better, lets hope.

I saw this CD and I thought i would be great. Although tribute cds have become "old hat", Van Halen had not received the treatment prior to this release. The cd features some the one time very popular heavy metal groups of the 1980's (Ratt, LA Guns, Quiet Riot etc) all who are attempting to make a comback, so a good way to get back into the metal business is to records covers of a greatly sucessful heavy metal band such as Van Halen, right? Wrong!, because they recorded techno versions as opposed to the tradational guitar orientated orignals, these versions are barley recogonizable from the classic originals, I wonder who had the moronic idea to fuse 90's techno with 80's in your face metal, or why a great guitar player such as Bruce Kulick would agree to record "Hot for Teacher" only to barely be heard on it. Do not make my mistake, stay away from this cd. I would give 0 stars but Amazon doesn't allow such a low rating. The only thing that could possibly be as bad these versions of Van Halen songs, is actually hearing Gary Cherone attempt to sing them!
