We were looking for a litter box that was easy to clean and helped contain odors at a good price. This product works well and for the price would recommend it.
* Door is sized well to support larger cats (this was a big concern/consideration for us)
* Easy to open and close the litter box
* Comes with a cleanable filter to help control odor
* Container is smooth making it usually easy to clean
* Door easy falls off and as such we do not even use it
* Bottom is not square and not completely flat making it sometimes difficult to clean
* Where the bottom and top of the litter box meets a small gap remains. The cats sometimes urinate between it requiring more cleaning. In addition, it is possible for urine to escape between the gap.
I use one litter box and this is the one. The box dimensions are high enough for our largest cat (22 lbs tabby -- just a really big boy and very long) and our littlest girl (8 lbs). I have always removed the plastic swing door as I have found this to be more of an annoyance for the cats and me (the scooper). The enclosed design of this tall box really lends itself to less tracking and more comfort for all different sizes of cats. It isn't so high that a smaller cat (or even a kitten) can't hop into the box.
The Van Ness liners makes for easy litter box changes and I recommend them as an adjunct product. This box is also very durable and will last years with cleaning and care.
Update 5/2013: I have since switched to the Booda Dome Cleanstep Cat Box, Brushed Nickel which I find a better box. A comment was made about my 5-star rating and the fact that I did not like the door (a feature of this box I never really found a use for) meant it should not be a perfect rating. I must agree with this comment. Used these boxes for years but have found the Booda Dome Cleanstep does a better job for all my kitties and for less trailing. Downgraded to 4 stars.
I bought this model because one of my female cats decided it's best to stand while urinating. This box keeps everything inside and looks better in an apartment where there's nowhere to put the box but right out in public. FWIW, I took the doors off both of my 2 boxes
The other one I recently tossed out due to a latch breaking - not a big deal considering these latches held up being unlatched every day, sometimes twice a day for 11 years. I was so happy with my older CP7's that I wanted the same model.
There are a few differences and only time will tell if the new CP7 is built as well as the old. The plastic used for the new seems more bendable, the latches a little more flimsy, but more bendable plastic isn't always a negative. The latches are now on the sides. The finish is more slick on the new CP7 and that makes fresh P-clumps easier to scoop.
One thing I didn't care for on the new one is the swinging door. Sure, it may keep the smell inside the box, but do you really think your cat will enjoy being in there with no fresh air? The door easily snaps off to be tossed in the trash.
I don't understand the complaints other reviewers have about their cats that pee standing up - with the pee getting into the edge of the box where the top meets the bottom. Every enclosed box I've come across has the same edge, and, yes, I have one cat that stands up to pee and it doesn't flow out all over the floor - it's contained in the ledge area of the litter box and so easy to use a wet paper towel to clean it up while scooping. I'd venture a guess if the pee is running out of the lip all over the floor, you aren't cleaning the box often enough.Read more ›
