I love Factory Balls, and now this Gelato thing!
It does have a glitch. The game still plays, but if I pause it, it comes back with pieces in strange places. (The timer is in the middle of gelato, hint button not shown, etc.)
That being said, I still like it. For an FAOTD, its really great. It does get more difficult as the levels progress, making one really think a few steps ahead.
I am having a elite difficult time further in, but that's because my illnesses caused some brain damage a couple of years ago. But THAT is why I love these types of games! To create a different way around things in spite of my brain damage.
For some, it may be a breeze to progress. For others, it may be hard. Grab this while it's free and give it a go! If you don't like it, uninstall.
I deducted 1 star because of the glitch. After an update fixes this, I will gladly give a proud 5 stars.
Enjoy!

A procedural logic puzzler, GELATO MANIA is a cleanly designed game that preteens and older will enjoy. The inherent logic progression for each ice cream (gelato is an internationally recognized Italian word for ice cream) is initially simple yet gets increasingly more complex mechanisms per stage (8 stages with 18 levels each). It does have a tutorial, which sufficiently covers the layering mechanisms.

Network + Read Device (Phone ID): Digital Rights Management (DRM) piracy protection. Game can be played offline.

External Memory Access: This is where GELATO MANIA loses a star. Although the permission is listed, it isn't used in any form on my Samsung Tab 3. In fact, I can't even move it manually to my SD card. Furthermore, the game increases in size with the auto-save, effectively doubling the 18mbs to 36mbs. Although GELATO MANIA is not unique in this fault (SEGA's 200mb game, SONIC CD, has the same issue), those with critical space issues may want to pass on this game.

The back-key does exit cleanly, and there is a refreshing absence of ALL extraneous outside links and adverts. Truth be told, however, I didn't really get into the game theme myself, but would have given 5 stars just for the streamlined design (if it wasn't for the external storage issue). The game is fairly forgiving with mistakes, giving additional undos and hints for completing certain levels as well as making it easy to either recolor a scoop, start over with a new scoop during a level, or replay the entire level. There is a timer that determines if one gets the star completion, yet that too is seems somewhat forgiving considering I always got the star in spite of spending a little more than a minute on some levels.

This app contains the ability to read and write it your USB storage and right off of the bat it puts the app into my device memory and does not allow me to move it to my SD card. Why have the permissions and not use it? In addition it contains Flurry Ads and Flurry Analytics. Not a good start for the app of the day.

The object of the game is to make the gelato look like the sample on the left. To do this you have to figure out the manufacturing process to use to recreate the identical match. It can take multiple steps to do this. The tools and coloring you need to use are located on the RH of the screen. Sometimes you don't need them all to get the job done so you have to think the process through.

The game is just OK. The graphics are good and the music is OK for the type of game it is. It is targeted at children and I found it pretty easy to play. There is an undo button, a start over button and a hint button on the lower LH of the screen but some of the options like undo are not available on some levels. In that case you just have to restart that level again. The game starts with a very simple tutorial.

The game is average and I didn't like that it has permissions to write to my USB memory and yet it cannot move the app to the SD card. Even though it has Flurry Analytics and Flurry Ads in the app no adds popped up during my game play. About 10 levels into the game I had to restart one gelato project and oddly enough I needed to use the blender but it had not reloaded itself into the slot where it was stored. This seems like a game flaw. I rated the game at 3 stars. It is just OK and I probably will not keep it as it is not something I would play and it takes up my limited device internal memory. If you have children they may enjoy it.

I got this as a FAOTD and at first I really enjoyed, right along with my kids. If you're already familiar with this type of game, it will be simple to grasp the concept. A lot of the levels seemed simple to me but posed varying levels of challenge to the kids. There were several levels that really made me think though and I had to restart several times. There are a few glitches however that brought the number of stars down. One is that on a several levels, even if I thought my gelato was exact, it wouldn't accept it. About half the time, after using a hint, I would realize that I had missed something. There are times you have to look really close or you might miss a detail. For at least the first half of the game it's safe to assume you'll use each piece of equipment at least once. It's the other half that frustrates me. After using a hint, the gelato it helped me construct would look identical to the ones I'd done on my own, the only difference being that the steps were done in a slightly different order than I had done. On one that I used the hint for, I can't even complete because it wants me to use a piece of equipment that's already in use on the gelato. I'm just thankful it doesn't prevent me from moving on. There are several sections with about 18 levels each. I can't finish the levels in that section but I can move onto the next section. On another level, a piece of the equipment covered the sample and it is impossible to recreate it because you can't see under the equipment and you have to use the hint. The hint even has you place the equipment on at the end.
