Every new day brought a different saga of plugging and unplugging various devices and hoping (often in vain) for the best.. Some peripherals would take over a half hour to even power on (a particularly infuriating example of this would be the half hour wait for the mouse to be recognized...).
So I decided to make use of my one last available PCI slot by using this product, thereby bypassing the hub altogether..If i don't have to spend another hour before a work deadline yanking at an obtuse thicket of seemingly identical, yet inexplicably non-functional wires....then my life would be the better for it..
The product came neatly packaged and promptly.. All it took to install was to snap in place and voila! My cantankerous beast of a computer which at times has difficulty recognizing its own monitor, picked up the 5 new USB 2.0 high speed ports without a moments hesitation..
You'll notice I said 5 usb ports - even though there are clearly only 4 visible on the packaging. No, Im not quite insane yet, but to be clear thats 4 ports facing outward towards the back of the computer and one port on the card itself on the inside..
Now lest you think that 5th one would go to waste , i came up with a nifty little idea and plugged a 32GB thumb drive into it.. now I have a semi-permanent 32GB SSD drive in the most cost effective way I can think of. It's classy when I say its classy after all!
Performance-wise this card is much zippier than the onboard USB 2.0 slots I have.. Im not sure whether its a grounding issue, or the fact that the onboards may not be communicating with one another well, but it doesn't really matter because for just a couple of bucks I more than solved the problem!..
After all, you can't beat the price for what you get..
My old Dell PC had 6 USB ports on the rear and 2 on the front and all the rear ports had devices plugged into them. My new Dell PC only had 4 on the rear and 2 on the front, which left no spares. I simply plugged the Vantec card into my new Windows 7 PC, plugged in my USB devices, and booted it up. Everything works great. As great as this product is, it would not be necessary if PC manufacturers would realize that most of the add-on peripheral devices nowadays are USB interface. I think 10 USB ports on the rear of the chassis would not be unreasonable.
No other changes to system and it was stable up to installation of this device.
Vance products are some of the best no hassle products you will find.
