I bought this bottle for international flights. Basically, I thought it would fit better in the seat back pocket, and I could fold it up and then refill it after going through security. And for that it works well.
Also just a few general comments:
(1) If you lose the sports cap, you can also buy a pack of 4 regular screw-on caps. You probably won't lose those as much.
(2) Yes, the opening is rather small, but a lot of reusable containers suffer from this same problem. Sigg Bottles, SodaStream bottles, and Kor's hydration vessels, for example, also have this issue. It is common with many reusable bottles.
(3) Perspiration can happen to any uninsulated vessel. Cold, heat, and humidity interact and cause sweating, and a regular plastic water bottle, soda can, car windshield, cold pack, etc. will all sweat under the right circumstances.
If you want to be satisfied with this product, a buyer needs to be realistic about how they will likely use it and the purpose it will serve. Don't expect it to be the best of every bottle that ever existed: just use it where it is best used and consider how it works better than other bottles under the same circumstances.
-Authentic vs. Fake
Authentic Vapur products are made in the USA, where as the fake bottle I received says Made in China. Here are a few of the differences I noticed between the fake and the authentic one.
Both feel like they are made from the same material and both have "BPA FREE" on the packaging. Obviously I have no idea whether or not the fake material contains bpa or not. I'm not dead yet so that says something there I guess about the toxicity of the material. The authentic one has a nice hole at the top of which is reinforced with a plastic grommet and a nice plastic clip. The fake, on the other hand, has the hole in the same spot but with no reinforcement and the clip is a joke, a cheap metal clip you would get on a free key chain. The printing is also slightly different on the fake with with a different "VAPUR" logo on the top front and 16OZ on the bottom front, the authentic one doesn't have any text on the bottom front. On the back the fake doesn't have the flattened globe printed on it where as the authentic one has it printed on the front and back. Another glaring difference is the top, the fake has more threads on the bottle part and the easy-open top is white and looks like it's from a disposable water bottle. That said the top of the authentic one isn't much nicer.
Review of the authentic Vapur bottle. (No more references to the fake):
The bottle is designed to be collapsible, space saving, light and functional. I am happy to say it does all that is advertised. I was able to collapse and store it in the front pocket of my carry-on or a pants pocket when empty. A normal bottle would have also fit in front pocket but would be a fair bit bulkier. Once empty, you fold it up towards the top and use the clip to keep it folded.
Filling from a drinking fountain is rather difficult. You need to hold it open in the middle to allow water to fill otherwise it folds and only fills the top part. Filling from a faucet is best.
It's different to drink from as well. As other reviewers have mentioned it's best to hold at the top and suck on it to drink from. Otherwise you need to use two hands or bite on the top and squeeze with a free hand.
Finally, it feels cheap. Like something you'd find at the dollar store cheap. It feels and looks like it cost about a dollar to make. The top looks like it doesn't fit or isn't the right one for it. It's the same type of top that comes on some disposable water bottles.
I like how it folds up when empty and you can use the clip to keep it folded. I like that it's BPA free and I like that it's made in the USA, I'm just not convinced this is worth the nearly ten bucks they are going for. It's a novel idea. This product is best for hiking or camping, activities where lightness and size are most important above all. I personally would rather use a normal reusable water bottle.
Holds .5L of fluid
Folds very small when empty and when folded easily fits in a pants pocket
Material quality: cheap feeling, like an item sold at a dollar store
The top looks like the same as a disposable water bottle
Difficult to fill
Water stored in it tastes "plasticy"
Awkward to drink from compared to a normal rigid bottle.
I ordered one for a friend who liked mine. Mine has lasted, but his sprung a leak soon after he got it.
