I hate the taste of most protein powders. Of all the ones I've tried, this is the best tasting of the bunch. I get the vanilla flavour as a base for my green smoothies and fruit smoothies, and I found that including a banana does the best job of masking the protein powder taste (that and having the smoothie as cold as possible!). I like that the pouch comes with a little scoop. If I could change one thing, it'd be to have the protein smoothie powder available in a larger size. I think this is the only Vega product that doesn't come in a large jar format. One pouch lasts me a little under two weeks (the package does say 12 servings.) Note while the pouch mentions no sugar added, the vanilla version IS sweetened with Stevia.

Something in the morning before the gym rather than a meal

I am absolutely in love with these shakes. This is my third flavor and I think my favorite, as it’s the most flexible in terms of what different kinds of shakes you can make. I’ve taken to adding bananas, Healthworks Pesticide and Chemical-Free Chia Seeds, 32 Ounce,Blue Diamond Almond Breeze - Unsweetened Original - 32 oz,All Natural Stevia Powder - No fillers, Additives or Artificial Ingredients of Any Kind - Highly Concentrated Stevia Extract Sugar Substitute (225g), cashews, and apples to the shakes every morning, which sounds like a lot, but the addition of all those different things makes the shakes last longer as I use a little bit less than the recommended amount. It’s great because the chia seeds add those sweet omega-3’s, the almond milk is organic and sugar free and adds a whole host of nutty deliciousness, and the stevia (even though I only use about half a teaspoon) is amazing because it adds sweetness without any freaky additives or calories. I definitely recommend these to anyone like me, who would rather a shake or something in the morning before the gym rather than a meal.

Dairy, soy, egg free; easiest to dissolve in blender cup

Love this. I need extra protein because I'm exclusively breastfeeding and I'd loose a scary amount of weight rapidly (like I did with my first child) if I don't supplement with extra meals. Protein drinks help when I lack the appetite to eat more. However, I cannot have dairy - and it's not just a lactose intolerance. I can't have casein unless I was to excessively expell from "both ends" and be covered in hives. So that eliminates about 80% of the protein powders on the market that typically contain whey. I also developed an egg intolerance after I had my first child. Hence, I only drink vegan protein powders. I tried the Vega All-In-One protein powder but had to stop drinking it because it contains Maca Root that causes me to have huge cystic acne. So this is the only one I drink and it is delicious. It's really quick to make. I mix the chocolate powder with Hawaiian spirulina powder, 1/2 of an avocado, and flaxseed milk in a Majic Bullet in the morning. When I don't have time to blend at home, I add just powder and almond milk in a Blender Cup and shake it up on my way to the metra. This powder is smooth and the easiest to dissolve protein powder that I have purchased. It's sweet tasting, so no extra sugar is needed.

While the powder is finer and more blend-able than other vegan/plant-based protein powders, I just don't like the taste. It is too sweet, tastes too artificial, and leaves a terrible after-taste. If you have tried other plant-based protein powders and have found them too "earthy," then this may be a good option for you (more similar to whey protein powders in taste/texture). For plant-based protein powders, my personal preference is the Sun Warrior line.

Wanted to love it, but it's not safe for celiacs...

As a celiac, I am often looking for items which will help me keep a proper nutritional balance. I looked to Vega since they stated they are gluten free.

Unfortunately immediately after I started having vega shakes for breakfast, I got very, very sick. I thought it must be something else -- we did our due diligence as I kept drinking my shakes, because what could be making me sick?

That's when I discovered that in order to make stevia powdered, a very small amount of gluten must be engaged. It isn't much, and it's enough to make the shakes technically 'gluten free' by FDA standards, but it's enough to make someone with celiac disease very, VERY sick. I'll spare you the details. Just... very, very sick. For a week.

As soon as I stopped drinking my shakes, I began to recover. Sadly, Vega shakes are not safe for celiacs. If there were a version with real sugar, and not stevia, I might try it. Given the processes needed to make artificial sugar replacements (and yes, with the amount of processing required, I consider powdered stevia artificial), I don't think I could trust it without actual sugar... what a shame!

The flavor was great, though I liked the berry flavor better, the product was super easy to use... but it made me very sick.

Note: I don't react to liquid stevia. It took us a lot of research to find that the powdering process requires a small amount of gluten.

this drink mix ix so yummy and keeps you full for a very long time. i use a shaker bottle, some ice and water and it taste great. it tast very chocaltie and cream, yes creamy with just water. you would think you are drinking choclate milk rather then a snake. i have one of these at lunch and a vega bar and im all set till like 3 then i have another snack bar and im good till dinner. i also have a snack bar and a shake as a snack before dinner and am full all night long

Best of all the vegan protein shakes I've tried. Thickens nicely and not grainy like the others. Seems a bit 'malty' even, which you miss without dairy or eggs. Great flavor. I use 1c coconut milk and 1c water per scoop, and it is a nice, thick shake. Really yummy! SO much better than many of the others. Just wish it had more nutritional info--as I'm sure there are more vits/mins in it than listed.
