I didn't read the directions, so I don't know what effect that had. I planted a few seeds each directly into Jiffy 5032 Professional Greenhouse 25-Plant peet moss pods (available on Amazon for $8). The mustard sprang up after about two days and the basil, cilantro, and mint followed shortly thereafter.
To the complaints that say there aren't that many seeds in each bag: There are about a dozen or so of each seed type. Normally, you would purchase a bag of 50-100 of one seed type for about 2.50 each. I don't know about you, but I would still only use a few seeds from that giant pack and throw the pack out still mostly full. The price "per seed" might be higher, but if you're only looking for a few of each plant, this is the cheaper way to go.
