This is part of "Burnout" - one of the best series I've read to date. It is a novella that focuses on the relationship between Abby, a native of Las Vegas who's relocated to Rapid City to run a high-end hotel & Mark, a former Army Ranger nicknamed Tex. Tex is a dominant in the BDSM scene who has been searching for a very specific type of woman to be his Happily Ever After. He is drawn to Abby's beauty, personality & willingness to explore BDSM with him. This novella pushes some buttons - exhibitionism, Abby's body image issue & a female on female encounter are ones that come to mind.
"Burnout" has five books about former Army Ranger brothers-in-arms, who have forged an unbreakable bond, plus one other novella based on another woman who captured the heart of Shooter, the Lieutenant who led the men through three tours in Iraq & Afghanistan. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS SERIES ENOUGH!! No 29-year-old billionaires unable to commit, no innocent virgins with a tragic past, no private jets, no penthouses, no Ferraris. Five men who have honorably served their country & now live in South Dakota!
The dialogue in "Vegas" flows smoothly & throughout the "Burnout" series it is crisp, funny, intense & very well written. The scene in "Shooter" where Hayley offers a weapon to Jimmy to kill himself with is one of the most wrenching & poignant ever written. "There really should be more stars in the sky on the night you die" she says quietly.
Enjoy "Vegas" & I hope you will fall in love with all the characters in "Burnout".
