The recipes are seven, some of which are not even that great for your health (I am a vegan, so this is not an omnivore's attack), and almost all of which you can find posted on the internet by amateurs. What is sad is that those amateur videos are almost all more fun and even professional-looking than this one. Ladies who are hosting this jumble their words, forget what they wanted to say and so on. I wonder why the production did not deem their buyers worthy of another take. The editing is horrible - they rush along, they can't even wait for their oil to heat up, they tell you that this is how they WOULD cook this for ten minutes, but for the sake of time, they just throw the stuff that is supposed to be cooked aside, bring another bowl and tell you: so, this is what it looks like cooked. Why didn't you just draw pictures of these dishes or show us photos while you're at it? Have you heard of CUTS and EDITING? Ever?
Shame on you for charging 20 dollars for something not worthy of a decent YouTube channel. I am giving this thing two stars only because it has "vegetarian" in its title and that's something I want to see more of.
I watched this DVD the way some people watch the paint dry. Initially it was nice to see two beautiful young ladies talk but after a while is gets so boo-rr-ing. There are 7 recipes in total out of which 2 are how to make junk food - cookies and chocolate cake. And don't forget to take down notes since there is no printed recipes or recipes in file inside the DVD or any links to download them from their website. If you have to re-watch this DVD to review before cooking, make sure you have a functioning fast forward button.
The editing was more sloppy than your neighbor's home movie. It looks like a 2 camera shooting with one camera on the tripod all the time and the second camera for closeups with long clip durations.
Then there is chunk of sponsored video on animal rights. I am for animal rights but I got this DVD to learn vegetarian cooking. Maybe they should have included more recipes. The FAQs are pathetic. Questions are like "what is cholesterol? I can understand if they were answered by a physician or a PhD in Nutrition which is more authoritative. These information can be easily googled. Do these ladies seriously think their audience are imbeciles?
I would rather give 1 star or less but in all fairness and not to discourage the enthusiastic ladies who have the grandiose plan to save this world, I am giving this DVD a 3 star. I will join the bee-line to list mine in the used section.
Enter "Vegetarian Cooking with Compassionate Cooks." This lively DVD is a great introduction to vegetarian cooking. Chefs Colleen Patrick-Goudreau and Alka Chandna demonstrate simple, quick, delicious-looking recipes for entrees and desserts including a classic chocolate chip cookie and a Harvest Stuffed Acorn Squash which would make a great holiday meal.
The DVD contains a menu that allows you to watch the entire video, or select from individual recipes. Each segment has great tips about ingredients and techniques. The DVD also has a Frequently Asked Questions segment aimed at meat-eaters or new vegetarians which offers information and opinion about various issues surrounding a the choice of a plant-based diet. There's also a short documentary about Farm Sanctuary, one of the sponsors of the DVD included on the disk.
The only thing this DVD is missing is printed versions of the recipes. Either a way to pull files of the disc or a website offering the recipes to owners of the DVD would be a great companion to this fun show. --Amy O'Neill Houck
