Edit- so, after taking a much closer look at the motor, it did not die. I would suggest anyone looking to buy this, also buy replacement sponges when you buy it. What I thought was a dead motor, was actually a clogged motor. When I opened it up and took a good look, I could see a little ring of built of dirt on the sponge where the motor sucks the water through, even though I clean it every week, it got a lot of build up this week for some reason. Once I washed the sponge really well, the motor ran again no problem. When I was moving the wire around, I was also moving the fountain itself and I guess freeing up some of the dirt stuck to the sponge.
I also looked inside the motor itself and could see a little build up in there so I cleaned that really well and it's running again just fine.
So my cats would absolutely not go near this thing at first, they didn't like the noise and they didn't like the "splashing" of the water. I took our the flower part and they liked it a lot better. I ended up getting rid of the rubber mat it comes with because cats will be cats and when they drink the water splashes out of the fountain a bit, but I have tile floors and it was getting under the mat and made my whole area smell like old trash. Took a while for me to figure out what it was but once I got rid of the mat, all was well. I've had it less than a year and yesterday the motor just stopped working. I think its a fault in the wire, because when I move it around, the motor weakly kicks on and then stops again. Disappointed because now 7 of my 10 cats seek the fountain out for a "fresh" drink. I understand ordering just the motor replacement is as expensive as a new fountain, so I guess I will just order a whole new thing to get the filters and all it comes with as well as a new sponge. Regardless I give it 4 stars because it is easy to clean, its quiet when running, and my cats do love it.

Clean The Pump to Extend Life
Cleaning the pump is essential to the longevity of the fountain. Please clean the pump at least every 2 weeks.
Step 1: Remove the pump cover.
Step 2: Remove the Impeller cap by placing your fingernail underneath the small lip.
Step 3: Remove the Impeller and clean the parts with soap and warm water.

I love this. Be patient. If your cat is not into it at 1st, it's ok... they will gravitate. ALSO, PLEASE DO NOT KEEP FOOD NEXT TO THIS! CATS DO NOT LIKE TO SMELL FOOD WHILE DRINKING WATER. as soon as I switched this up, cat drinks the water. Also, this doesn't fill itself folks. Just.like you would fill a Brita water pitcher, go ahead and fill this. I like how you can tell when it needs to be filled. The motor gets louder otherwise it's a nice peaceful stream of water that my cat now loves! It only took him about 5-7 days... lolI would suggest this.
