Format: Paperback
Pictorial survey documenting the creative efforts of both cyclists and artists in creating bicycle-related graphic art, jewel-encrusted bicycles, sculpture, and performance art (Cristo-type events where cyclists don costumes and ride through the city, as well as stage plays, circus stunts & sound). It documents a group of Trinidian kids in Brooklyn who have attached full-size speaker cabinets to their bicycles to create mobile sound stages as well as a cyclist who rides a tricycle around while projecting silent movies on his back from a projector. This book documents the recent explosion of culture surrounding the bicycle and includes several art gallery shows as well as 3rd World bicycle projects.

Society's current level of interest in the bicycle spontaneously emerged over the protests of traditional cyclists scolding them for riding fixed-gears without brakes, gears or helmets. While you could easily find books on traditional values in cycling you could not find books about the excitement people find in cycling and the creative explosion it inspires. This is that book.

Just loaded with beauty, "Velo: Bicycle Culture and Design" is what you'd get if you crossed W magazine with the Tour de France. Take the Whitney Museum and fill it with bikes. Calling these bikes art is no stretch.

The book is not cheap; it is high quality, from the paper, to the layout, to the binding. Books like these make me yearn for paper books instead of kindles.

The text is sparse here; you feel the images in this book and see the colors and designs.

Meandering through these pages is a delightful way to spend a lazy afternoon.

This book has really cool high quality full color pages that represent many different art mediums and mostly all contain bicycles.

I bought this book as a coffee table book and people are loving it. Perhaps that's because I live in Portland, but what can I say? This book is well made and I think it will be around our house for a long time.

I saw this book in a store before purchasing online (lower price) and it didn't disappoint. It was packaged well and in perfect condition. It has a great collection of bike culture that includes everything from bike accessories to art.
