Oh, don't get me wrong. The mid and upper sound ranges are perfectly rendered. The battery life and weight are to be commended. The addition of a stereo input jack that enables the headphones to continue to be useful even after the bluetooth battery drains is certainly a highlighted feature.
Except for a pair of headphones that are supposed to weigh in at $300, there is almost no bass. Far cheaper headsets I have in hand from Steel Series and Rosewill offer much better overall sound ranges. The reproduction might not be as crisp in the mids or highs, but the impact of Xilent, Eedl, or Code of Ethics isn't missing.
Then there is the build quality. I can't figure out if the headphones are too precisely manufactured, or just fragile. In everyday course of movement I keep hearing cracks and creaks from the headset that have me panicking that I just broke them simply by taking them off my ears and letting them hang around my neck. The button's, while creatively designed, feel like they are going to pop off any second. I'm left with the impression that these highly expensive headphones could break if I just so much as look at them wrong.
So, for the most part, they stay in their little carrying case. They certainly are nicer than other BT headphones I've owned... and easily the best sounding outside from the missing low-range... and if I'm listening to say Opera or Orchestras... the clarity is appreciated. Still... that high price... for what I got? I'm not really sure it's worth it.
About three weeks after purchasing this product the head band part of the headphones started to crack on the left and right side then soon after it started to crack everywhere and now the whole left ear piece just fell off.
I only used it at home while I played PS3.
No refund from velodyne because I purchased it on amazon.
The worst product I have ever purchased.
The sound quality was actually not bad but I regret spending 250 dollars on this piece of S***
-Not terribly comfortable for any lengthy period of listening, begins hurting your ears after 20ish~ minutes if I had to guesstimate.
-Buttons are fairly intuitive even though they may seem a bit strange at first.
-Build quality is...ehh. It's all plastic except for some reinforcement on the headbands joints and where it extends. Feels quite plasticy, not sure about longevity.
-Charge lasts quite a while. While I don't have any numbers, I could see this lasting a week without a charge depending on how much you listen to it.
-One of the more redeeming features is that in spite of its questionable build quality, its sound is quite good. Much better sound than I expected after picking it up, good bottom end...don't think it's very neutral...but that's what people like, so I guess it doesn't matter.
-Also as mentioned...glossy. It may attract fingerprints.
Overall, meh. If it came with the same sound but better comfort and build quality it would probably be a real winner.
Sound Quality - Velodyne basically just walked right up to Dr. Dre, slapped him, and said "stick to your day job" all in studio quality acoustics. These phones work very well as studio monitors. Almost as well as the Audio Technica M50X's but for less than half the price. I would highly recommend these to anyone who loves their music. Great gift for a music loving/playing student!
