This book follows Velvet for 13 days of her life, 13 days of magic and wonder. It is based in Georgia's first city, Savannah, one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. Velvet Riverstone is forty-something and lonely. She is creating a post-divorce life in the coastal city of Savannah, Georgia. On her own for the first time ever, she works with long-time friends Jane and Electra at their occult bookstore on River Street.
Her friends decide that Velvet needs a mate, so they give her a tattered spell book and ask her to consider making magic. Skeptical at first, Velvet decides to cast a spell for love. On Halloween, as the clock strikes midnight, she performs the spell.
