... and I am happy to be Amazon's first reviewer. The documentary deserves to be a Criterion Collection addition upon its release.

I had read all the books and viewed all the videos pertaining to Warhol and Lou Reed, and Todd Haynes' film is virtually EVERYTHING else, thanks to his access.

Todd stays focused on the Velvet's music, despite the many distractions that could have strayed from the band's achievements.

John Cale is one of the central guides to the band's music--and avant garde music in general--throughout the film. He has held up remarkably well throughout the many decades, well-preserved and articulate.

This was the best documentary I had ever seen. The integration of art,music,avant garde cinema is mind blowing. I have Apple TV and didn’t know it was even made or available until Criterion released it. I actually used to know Todd Haynes socially, and have always admired his work. This is a must for any VU fan as some of the music used was very rare. It even has a lot of history with Warhol and Nico. Two other geniuses. Get it on blu ray.

I love the music of the Velvet Underground. I love Nico's music and some of Cale's. I love documentaries and have seen many both music related and otherwise. This is a good documentary but not an excellent one. And not something I will watch again, most likely. Frankly I don't understand why it got a Criterion release. It is just not that great. But Criterion has become very liberal in its releases the past couple of decades so...glad to have seen it but I'd rather hear their music. I suspect many will like it just because they love the music and times of the Velvet Underground but the film and the extras are just average at best.
