Let me back up and catch you up in case you just jump in to books without reading the synopsis (like I do sometimes.) So in this book we meet Alecia Reynolds, whose parents are both murdered by a local motorcycle gang. While that sounds cut and dried, it's anything but. It turns out that her father was an undercover cop who infiltrated his way into the Spades MC and his boss, Collin Berkeley is dirty and ratted him out to the MC.
A year later, a mysterious informant reaches out to Alecia and leaves her a whole host of information that her father was set-up and data for her to use to exact justice.
Thus, Alecia begins her plan to get revenge. She trains hard for two years to prepare herself not only physically, but mentally. Armed with an in at the police station, her friend Sheridan, and her tech guy, Marcus, and three minions/distractions Alecia's plan begins.
She infiltrates herself as a sweet butt by the name of Ella Moore and thus begins the fun.
I won't spoil this great read, because honestly, you should just enjoy it yourself. Suffice to say, I really did like it. I enjoyed how steadfast she was in her plan, never wavering in her execution (pun intended) of her plan and even when things started to fall apart-she never did.
Honestly, her relationship with Taser I think helped the character because she showed humanity, that her revenge hadn't completely taken over and that she could allow herself to feel again. Without it, she would have come across as cold and ruthless, with more issues than seeking revenge.
Also, yes, this book has a HEA but it also has a plot twist I, for one, did not see coming. I liked not only the plot twist, cause it explained lingering questions, but also because she allowed herself to be happy. I give it 4 1/2 stars and can't wait to read more!
Once I began reading it, it wasn't what I thought. Don't get me wrong, I am not disappointed at all!!
What I had problems with: (and they are such small things)
The years in between. The gaps. I get that those moments were not pertinent to the story but it made things feel rushed.
No depth of the characters of Marcus and Sheridan. They were her biggest allies and we knew nothing about them. We knew more about Tao than we did those two.
What I loved:
The strong female role of Alecia/Ella - I love a strong woman in my reads.
I never knew hate sex could be so damn HOT!!! Wow!!!
The emotional connection I felt with Alecia. I hated to see her suffer and understood her need for revenge. I loved the line about not killing innocents.
The ending was fantastic! Short and to the point! Loved it!
And finally -
Taser - That is freakin' BBF material right there!!! Hot, huge, tatted, and great in the sack!
Alecia was the daughter of a police officer and after he and her mother are murdered separately, she has no clue as to why or who did it...but after wallowing in pity and depression she finally decides (after a mysterious letter arrives) that she will do something about it.
Enter "Ella" and along with some friends she trusts with her life, a journey of discovery, revenge and finally absolution is begun and it was a thrilling, violent and dangerous ride that ends with a satisfying conclusion.
I really enjoyed this book a lot and read it non-stop...it was so action-packed and exciting that I wanted to hurry up and get to the end...but I did take issue with the seemingly "too easy" way Ella was able to manipulate and make everything work out with almost no problems. It seemed the ending was just too neat and almost felt rushed, with the epilogue just tying everything up with a neat little bow. However, I really appreciated that the author wrote this book that can be read as a standalone and we aren't forced to buy one book after the other to get to the final revenge. Biker/dark romance readers alike will enjoy this one!
