Javier Rivera, a London-based business magnate, is intrigued to find the stunning receptionist Vivian Foster, snooping in his office after hours, pinching files. He suspects industrial espionage. However, there's no time to verify Vivian's credentials or check her motives. He has a plane to catch and a merger to sign. So he has no choice but to take Vivian along with him, using force if necessary. For Vivian, this isn't so much about espionage as it is about justice. She hates Javier and blames him for the death of her best friend a few months earlier. The enforced companionship which takes them to Paris, Switzerland and back again, helps them to get to know each other better. They learn that things are not always as they seem on first appearances. Then there's that attraction flaring between them. BTW the love scenes are smoking hot, so don't say you weren't warned.
A slickly written piece of romantic suspense which will grab you by the collar at the outset and won't let you go until it's finished with you. Vivian is a strong, witty heroine and I loved reading the dialogue in this novel, especially where she was involved. I had to read the whole book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. If you love suspenseful, romantic fiction, you'll enjoy this immensely. As for me, I'll be looking out for Carmen Falcone's next book.
On a personal note, I was delighted to learn that Vivian is a tall gal (6'). This made A Vengeful Affair a particularly special read for me, as I could relate firsthand to her tall girl issues (I'm 5'11). Not that I wouldn't have been cheering her along if she wasn't vertically gifted (as one of my tall friends puts it) but it made it all the more fabulous, at least to me. Go tall heroines! Fantastic novel. Two thumbs up.
Those were the words that snared me hook, line and sinker into buying this book. I was not disappointed.
A vengeful affair is the perfect category romance - steamy and passionate with dark back-stories and tragic misunderstandings.
I loved that Ms. Falcone pulled this off without making Javier the kind of old-school jerk that no woman should fall in love with. Instead, she dances around his implication in the murder while we, and Vivien get to know the man behind the ruthless corporate image.
This was a wonderful debut novel by Carmen Falcone - I look forward to her future releases!
The story line was okay, but i felt the characters needed more development.
It had a couple of surprises that came out of the blue, and that I really enjoyed. It was funny and over all a good quick read.
This book was everything I was looking for. It is exiting, entertaining, and sexy. Very well written, you keep turning the pages because you want to know what will happen next. So if you want to step out of your everyday routine and be part of a different life and a great romance this is a book for you.
