I've enjoyed reading both book 1 & book 2 (this book) in the new series. While they appear to be aimed at tween or young adult readers, as a "mature" adult, I found them both very enjoyable to read. I look forward to the remainder of the series, and will be recommending them to the next 2 generations of my family & friends.

If you enjoyed Book 1 of the Andy Smithson series by L. R. W. Lee, you'll love Book 2, Venom of the Serpent's Cunning. When Andy makes his second trip to the Land of Oomaldee he’s 11 years old and the challenges he faces prove daunting. During this adventure expect large scale battles, underwater swims to venture toward a magical island and engagements with the seven-headed red dragon Abbadon.

Andy not only faces wave after wave of challengers, but shape shifting antagonists while trying to reverse a curse enacted by Imogenia, the king's sister, from the Afterlife that leaves King Hercalon V and the Wizard Mermin on the verge of death.

If this isn’t enough, Andy continues to pursue a second ingredient in his quest to end a 500 year curse. The more I read from L.R.W. Lee, the more I’m drawn to her engaging writing. I can’t wait to read book 3. Andy, his best friend Alden, and a host of allies work to solve a riddle. In addition, they must find the illusive Sometimes Island even as Abbadon controls the territory around Oomaldee. When Andy ventures into a secret library he discovers surprising clues about his heritage that will carry him forward.

This series keeps getting better and better. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!

The cover is definitely adventurous, and I think it will attract boys who love adventure and slaying beasts :)

I bought this book back in July, and I really enjoyed the new adventure that Andy and his friends went on. This book had all sorts of mysteries and puzzles to solve. Action galore for boys who are imaginative and like to pretend that stick in the yard is a sword, and they are slaying a beast to protect all. As an adult, I found a few of the parts a little boring, but I think my son would love this book as well as many other reluctant readers who love their video game adventures.

L.R.W. does a wonderful job engaging the reader in the story. She is very descriptive making it easy to picture what is happening in your mind as you read. I think this next book is going to be my favorite, and I can’t wait to start reading it. One day, I will get this book and the next in paperback to share in my classroom library with my adventure seeking students.

I recommend this series to adventurous souls who love keeping the bad guys at bay with their swords especially if you love using your imagination. If you read book 1, you definitely need to keep reading. Off to read book 3 now :)

I am really enjoying this series. The characters are likeable, the main character is learning life lessons as well as saving the kingdom. There is enough action and switch up to make it fun to read and while the results are a bit "Hollywood", that is alright for the audience that is being targeted. Two parallel realms, and many different characters have made these books a great read. As a reader, I find myself sympathizing and enjoying the different scenarios, and looking forward to the next adventure.

Sarah Hanrahan Age 13:
Even more action-packed than the first, in Andy Smithson, Venom of the Serpent's Cunning, Andy returns to the land of Oomaldee where he must once more face Abaddon, and go on a quest on which the fate of Oomaldee rests. Andy must reclaim the stolen source of the king's eternal life so he does not perish, and so it does not fall into the wrong hands. Easy to read with constant suspense, adventure-seekers will love this fast-paced fantasy book with new monsters and enemies that Andy must face. I loved all of the new characters and foes, including the Bellicose and Razen, which give a new flavor and twist to the story.

How would you feel if you were called upon to risk your own life to save someone whom you admire? Eleven-year-old Andy Smithson lives with his dad and mother, both of whom are C.E.O.s of their own businesses, and his older sister Madison. In the first book of this series, Andy Smithson: Blast of the Dragon's Fury, Andy is mysteriously transported to the kingdom of Oomaldee which, along with its King Hercalon V, is under a curse. The land is shrouded in perpetual fog, and the King, who is now around 500 years old, is doomed to live forever while those whom he loves pass on. Andy’s mission is to gather together all the ingredients which are needed to break the curse. In Book 1, he finds the first one and in the process defeats the dragon Abbadon, the enemy who is trying to conquer Oomaldee.
Nine months later, Andy returns to Oomaldee to get the second ingredient. What Andy doesn’t know, and learns in Venom of the Serpent's Cunning, is that the reason for the curse is that Hercalon had killed his older sister Imogenia so that he could take the throne. The King is now truly sorry for his act, but Imogenia’s spirit is in league with Abbadon to maintain her revenge and thwart Andy’s work. An additional problem develops in that the stone which gives Hercalon his immortality is stolen so that both he and his wizard Mermin become very ill. Thus, Andy must not only locate the second ingredient but also retrieve the stone. He determines that Abbadon must be behind the stone’s disappearance, so with the help of the friends from his previous visit, Alden, Hannah, Glaucin the merman, and the knight statues, he goes after his quest. But will he make it in time to save the King? And will he himself survive the venom of the serpent’s cunning?
