Finally A Bike Speaker That Works - And Extremely Well At That

Finally A Bike Speaker That Works - And Extremely Well At That
This is the 4th bike speaker I have purchased over the last 2 years; 1st one by Venstar. Needless to say, I was about to give up hope on finding a speaker for my bike. All the speakers I got before never were loud enough, stayed on the frame, or were easy enough to utilize while riding. I have had roadie friends buy incredible loud speakers before, however those speakers were always way out of my price range. Additionally they never appeared to be weather proofed or meant to take a beating on a bike (perhaps why I never see their speakers anymore). When I opened the package from Amazon, I was immediately impressed. The packaging had a biker as the featured picture. This let me know this speaker was made for us; not just another after market demographic attempt.Holy hanna was the bike mount easy to install! It literally took seconds. And the speaker was snug right in it so I didn't worry about it popping out in the case of a pot hole. While looking at how large the button display was, I figured there was no need for me to install the remote cable. It looked easy enough to use the standard controls. I was right. While taking it out for my first spin Thursday night with my group ride, someone actually asked if the speaker auto paused the music when I braked. "Nope - it is just easy enough to press the button up here."One of the biggest issues I had with other speakers was there was no bass and didn't get loud enough. Riding with the wind in your ears it was impossible to hear the music before. Not the case with this one. Everyone could hear it.I was extremely surprised to learn that while listening to Pandora off my Android phone, pressing the down button actually advanced to the next song. Epicly awesome considering I highly doubt that my bike group wants to hear Disney songs when I have my phone on shuffle mode. The only issues I encountered was that sometime it was hard to have the device distinguish between my presses to turn down the music and to advance songs as they both use the same button. Hopefully with time I will get better with that. Additionally when using Bluetooth there might be some delay between pushing the button and the action to occur. I do not know if that is my phone or the device causing the delay but something to be aware of. Don't try pushing the button 20 million times for it to respond.Considering the price point and everything - I am loving the speaker. Yeah now I have something to listen to on long rides!

This is a very nice speaker. I like that it mounts to both the handlebar as well as can mount where the water bottle cage would go. It's secure and functions very well while riding. It's loud and the horn feature is fun as well. It comes with a remote that mounts to the handle bar. There is a little work I'm running the cord down one of the break lines/ shift cables but overall is easy to install. The only thing the remote doesn't do is have volume control. So set your volume and just pause when you need to converse. What Iike most about the speaker is the customer service that I received when my remote audio jack broke. I sent an email with pictures explaining what happened. I was contacted the next day by a representive and they offered to replace the entire speaker. In their words they wanted to be an "obliged seller". I was blown away. I thought surely I could buy the remote separate or would need to buy a new speaker. While the price on amazon makes it affordable, it wasn't something I was looking forward to. The speaker is quality. The remote is a nice feature and the customer service is first class!

    Update 7/13/17:
Up until a few weeks ago I had ridden over 2,600 miles with this speaker and all was well. Even using its speakerphone function while riding 16+ was very good. Then I started to hear some distortion a few weeks ago. When I removed the speaker from my bike saddle, I noticed something feeling loose inside. Being a electrical/electronic guy, I decided to take it apart and see if I could fix it. Upon examination I found one of the speakers broken around the cone. I sent pictures to I-Venstar and received an email back the next day with GREAT news, they requested my original Amazon order number and said they would replace the defective unit with a new one. Now I can say that their Customer Service is as impressive as the functionality and quality of their products. The new unit is on it's way with free shopping. I'm very satisfied with Venstar and will again recommend this product.

First, the delivery was on time and in good condition. When I unpackages the speaker I couldn't believe the quality and accessories for the price. I charged it and tried it out on the bench, I was very happy with the quality of the sound. I mounted it to my bike and went for a 40+ ride. I could not believe how the quality of the output at reasonable volume even into the wind at 20+ MPH. Podcast or music, works great. You can pay 3 to 4 times what this speaker will do and get a little better bass but all in all, this is a great product and I'd highly recommend it for training or casual rides.

Compared to some other bluetooth speakers I own, this one has a much more decent sound quality. It's nice and loud on a bike ride even with all the wind. Pairs to my phone quickly and the next/previous functions works perfectly. It doesn't rain much where I am, but I rode by the beach while it was very misty and the speaker doesn't seem to be damaged at all. Install on my handle bar wasn't hard and I had to use the rubber padding it came with it to make it fit. I feel like I might need to tighten it as it dips forward or back a little during my ride. I have not used the remote and probably don't intend to (although come to think of it I might of accidentally thrown it out when I threw out the box).

I have some issues with it, but they're very minor. The up/down buttons are a little weird. It could be that I'm just used to it a certain way on other devices. I would prefer separate volume control or for the previous/next and volume control to be the opposite in that you hold to go to the next or previous song and tap for volume. I usually want to adjust the volume more than change the song and sometimes I end up switching songs because the button was not pressed long enough (even though I clearly heard the volume adjust). Another thing is that the up button is previous and the down button is next. I thought that was a little odd, but I suppose it's just the position of the buttons. Typically previous is on the left and next is on the right, so I believe that was what they were going for.

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn down the bell, but I suppose that's on purpose too. Sometimes it just seems extremely loud. There's only two options for the bell - car horn (which is confusing if you drive on or near streets) and and ear-splitting "ding-ding." Wish there were more, but it's better than nothing.

Sounds that it has turned on, paired, and powered off would have been better than the voice.

Some FYI's: I experienced some "skips" while my music played as if my phone was far away (only less 2 feet or so at the time). Later I experienced the volume just drop. I restarted the device a couple of times and it just dropped again. These things are apparently signs that the speaker needs to be charged. After a third restart I came to that conclusion and a few minutes later I heard the warning sounds that the speaker was going to shut off. This was my own fault in not tracking how much time I had spent with it already, but it lasted me quite a few rides that were over an hour long. I'll be buying another as a gift for a family member that liked it when we were riding together.

At first, this was a great speaker: loud, with intuitive button placement. I live in the city, so biking anywhere I need a speaker that I can hear over trucks and the train. I also like to change the song, volume, or station without having to look down a the speaker. This did the job... until it didn't.

About a month into using this, the volume would suddenly decrease to near inaudible levels, and I would not be able to raise the volume back up. I had to restart the whole speaker in order to listen to music for another minute or two, until it would malfunction again. It does this every time I ride!

So I emailed Venstar service ... and waited for their response. I've emailed them three times already. I even emailed their social media request department. And nothing! I've never been so upset at a company's complete lack of professionalism and respect for their customers. DO NOT buy this speaker! I will update the review if the seller contacts me to make things right. But as of right now, I'm very unimpressed with both the product and the company.
