- Enter your model number to make sure this fits.
- The Venta Water Treatment Additive is designed for the Venta Airwasher models to maintain hygienic conditions in the lower housing and to improve the evaporation process.
- It creates a sheeting action on the disks to maximize the surface area coated in water - this aids in the evaporation process.
- The Water Treatment Additive also helps prevent calcium and lime build-up.
- The ingredients of the Venta Water Treatment Additive do not evaporate. They remain in the unit until poured out for cleaning (approximately every 10 to 14 days). Only fresh water should be added daily - this reactivates the contents of the Venta Water Treatment Additive. One bottle is sufficient for approximately one season.

Since both units run almost 24/7, I will confess that about every 6 weeks, I do take the base and water wheels for both units and soak them in a mild bleach/dish detergent solution in the bathtub (both units are oyster white). With being able to remove the motor/fan assembly so easily to clean the blades, I feel like I have a healthy environment for each unit. Using the water treatment as directed keeps my units clean and sanitary in between cleanings. I trade off cleaning methods because much as I like the products, I do have to keep my eye on a tight budget. This is well worth the expense though.
Initially, I used our Venta Airwasher with no water treatment additive. The instructions' FAQs indicate that this is fine. No calcium deposits were detected while using no water treatment. This is likely due to the fact that we have very low mineral content in our water. However, humidity output was disappointing. After adding one of the small bottles of water treatment that came with the unit there was a great increase in the amount of humidity produced. (Note: it was still less humidity than produced by a traditional steam or agitator style humidifier. But those humidifiers do not clean floating dust particles from the air, which the Venta does quite effectively.)
The water treatment additive chemicals are expensive and after substantial testing, I have concluded that you do not have to keep adding fresh bottles of additive. Here's how I clean our Venta Airwasher while also preserving the chemicals for repeated uses. It's really quite simple: 1. Fill the Venta up as you usually do. 2. Remove the rotating disc assembly. 3. Spray and clean the disc assembly. 4. Pour the water from the lower unit through a coffee filter into another container to capture all of the dirt and dust that has accumulated. 5. Throw the coffee filter away. 6. Wipe out the lower reservoir. 7. Pour the water (that still contains the chemical additives) back into the Venta reservoir. 6. Reinstall the rotating disc assembly. Return the top fan unit and you're ready to go.Read more ›
Venta offers various rationales for their additives, to take our minds off the possibility that we've bought into a razor-and-blades, spoon-and-coke business model. The water needs to form a film to properly evaporate; a bit of soap takes care of that.
Sediment build-up? I've always had to take an old toothbrush to the "gear" portion of the spinning disk arrays, to clean off brown gunk each time I change the water. I live in a dirty city with complicated water; your results may vary, but a purpose of the Venta Airwasher is to trap gunk in the air itself; this need for cleaning is proof that the airwasher is working. I always used to dread this step (far more than paying for additives). The brown gunk comes off far more easily, with my homemade solution, and I see no need to ever buy Venta cleaner again. Ideally, any water treatment should double as a cleaner, removing the need for a separate cleaning product. Mine passes this test; their's does not.
Also, the water needs to not go "off" between changes. In principle, dish soap alone can't be counted on here; ever smell a wet sponge that went too long in kitchen service? On the other hand, that sponge is exposed to food, while there is no natural food source in the Venta water.Read more ›
90% - Water
5% - Alkyl* dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride *(41%C14, 28%C12, 19%C18, 12%C16)
Other - Alkyl* dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride *(55% C16, 27% C12, 16% C14, 2% C18)
I have actually found that I need to replace the water every 10 days to avoid the buildup of "gunk" in the water. I have lived in an area where the water had a much higher mineral content compared to where I live now and found myself doing a complete rinse-out of the Airwasher and replacement of the water and the treastment additive every week, just because the build-up of mineral deposits was so high.
