Time Machine in Mac OS 10.6
on April 1, 2012
After seeing the mixed reviews I decided to take a chance on this item. I primarily want to use for backup and, more specifically, time machine. The product isn't bad, but it is definitely not straight forward to set up time machine, particularly with Mac OS X after Leopard (10.5). Firstly, you have to put this command into terminal in order to allow the possibility to select a network drive for use with time machine: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
I still was unable to get time machine to work because I have a dual partition 500 GB drive and when I select the entire drive as the drive for time machine use, it throws me an error because it cannot create the backup file. It appears that it is trying to use the wrong network path. If anyone has any insight into how to resolve this, please reply to this review.
Overall, not a bad product. Just not the most straight forward.
