The story presented is a refreshing present day fantasy adventure based in Seattle. I loved that you never knew who to trust until the end. If you like mythical creature stories, this is for you, and if you don't, this is also for you. If you like art or stories based in Seattle-- read this!
Admittedly, I had to look up many words from this novel, the author uses an extensive vocabulary. This is a good thing as I can't just read young adult level novels mindlessly all the time. The descriptions are specific and conjure a very vivid imagine in your mind. It took me about 4 nights to read this book, was perfect for a long weekend.
The concept is interesting and gave me a lot to think about. I loved the world presented but perhaps my favorite part of it all was that none of the creatures would exist without the human component of imagination, belief, and story telling. I admired the main character's drive, courage, and tenacious nature. I really liked the side kick she picked up along her journey and would have loved even more back story on Rusty- very intriguing character. The witch was great, loved the twist there. Incubus and Succubus, yes!
Overall, very entertaining and a story I would recommend. This is an amazing first book and I hope the author writes more- either a continuation in the Verge or another concept as this author has fresh ideas.
