Reluctant Consumer

Verilux has fallen behind other S.A.D. therapy lights.

I had high hopes for this lamp. I've been using light therapy lamps for about a decade. My first lamp was the huge Happy light Delux, which I used for years. Since the recent proliferation of LEDs, I've been trying varous other brands while waiting for Verilux to put out an LED lamp.

While this lamp is beautifully designed, it is simply not bright enough. Though this lamp is advertised as 10,000 lux (the amount of light studies have found to be effective in treating S.A.D.), you have to use the lamp SIX INCHES from your eyes to get that brightness. This is NOT clearly indicated by Verilux in their promotional material. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the various photos of this lamp on table tops and countertops is intentionally misleading (I don't know how you could work on your MacBook, for example, while using this light six inches from your face). If you want a lamp that is in the same price range as the Happy light Lucent, but brighter and better designed, I'd reccomend the Circadian Optics Lumos 2.0 (ASIN B01D893GJG). I have the Circadian Optics Lumos 1.0 (the thin lamp in the photos) and, aparantly, the Lumos 2.0 is 3X brighter than the Lumos 1.0. For a lamp that's actually bright enough to use as advertised (ie, on a table, etc.), I'd reccomend the Alaska Northern Lights Aurora LightPad (ASIN B00ZQ30YOS).

Not 10,000 lux at any useful distance

Strap it to your face and you'll get 10,000 lux. Otherwise, my light meter shows less than 1000 at any normal distance (like sitting in a chair with it on a table or desk). Bought an Aurora Lightpad Mini instead.

This is a GREAT light! I have never had a HappyLight before, and this is really a game changer! I live in NYC where it feels like it is gray all the time, and in the past I have certainly felt the effects. This season I noticed that my energy never lagged and I was still able to hop out of bed even though it was dark. I use it for about 30 minutes per day while eating an early breakfast and it keeps me going all day! I cannot say enough good things about this light. Also it is small enough to be portable which is very convenient, it would fit anywhere in my apartment. Highly recommend!

The lack of sun during this extremely long winter had me feeling down and unmotivated. I absolutely LOVE this light! I use it in the morning and I feel energized throughout the day. It has been especially beneficial during this extended cold snap we have had in New England - all the way into May this year. It is the size of a tablet so it is sleek, fits anywhere, and would be great to pack when traveling. The stand is sturdy and can be detached and clipped to the back - another added bonus for packing/storing. I can't recommend this light enough!

No regrets. I have used it everyday since I got it and I totally feel the difference!! I don’t feel as rundown, I have slept better and feel way more focused. The light is the only change I’ve made. I have noticed over the past month, my energy levels are higher, I am more focussed and my sleep patterns have never been this great! I wake up at the same time in the morning (give or take 5-10) which has been a blessing.

The size and sleekness is also such a plus and isn't hideous like a lot of other light boxes. I highly recommend this product!
