I got 2 of these during the Thanksgiving Day/Black Friday give away. Good thing they were free or I'd send them back. I tried twice to post this review to the providers site and both times they refused it...guess they don't want people to know the truth about their first foray into the tablet market. There are positives to this tablet...it is quad core so it is pretty fast. The screen resolution is pretty good too. But that is about the end of the positives. There is very little memory left for anything due to all the bloatware that is pre-installed that you can't uninstall or move. I installed a 32gb micro sd card but can't move much to it, which really doesn't help the memory problem. The speakers are pretty bad...very poor volume and quality. And the worst part of this tablet is the horrible battery life. I did a test recently...charged it to 100%...turned all the settings down as low as they would go, turned off wifi and mobile data...got a whopping 27 hours sitting on the desk like a paper weight. So, the next charge I adjusted the settings to middle of the road levels and used it to surf the net and get email a few times during the day, not more than 30 minute surfing maybe twice during that day and playing games a handful of times and got well under half the time out of it than I did when it just sat on the desk unused. I guess for free it is a good budget tablet but if I had paid the 249.99 regular price it would have gone right back.

The Verizon Ellipsis 7 is a very basic device. It has all the things that people have come to expect from a tablet, but not much else.
It has both a rear and front facing camera, however the resolution is quite low. The screen resolution is basically 720p. It's running android jellybean, which means that everything runs smooth without lag. The CPU is a 1.2 GHz quad core. Not the best, but it's still enough to run any game on the play store. The build quality isn't bad either. It's still plastic, but it feels sturdy.

I bought this tablet on black Friday and got it for "free". The shipping was free and there was no activation fee. The only cost is the $10 a month for shared data access. Of course it does have a 24 month contract. So the total cost to me is basically $240. Not bad.

The one thing to keep in mind is that this is a budget tablet and the hardware was outdated before it was even released.

That being said I have two major complaints
1. The speakers have a really bad distortion when over about 3/4 volume.
2. The camera is probably the worst I've used since my first android phone back in 2009. It's pretty awful. I wouldn't use it for any kind of family pictures or events. It might be good for recording receipts or documents. That's about it.

This would be a good tablet for a kid. It would also make a decent e-reader, but I wouldn't buy it for just that alone. If you can get it for $150 or under it's not a bad deal. Personally, I wouldn't have bought it at all if it weren't free. I will likely play around with it for a week or two and then give it to my girlfriend because she has an old android phone running gingerbread. She wants to play words with friends with me, but can't because her phone is too old.

I hope this has been helpful to anyone out there considering this device.

I picked this tablet up at the local Verizon store recently. At the time I was buying accessories for my Samsung Galaxy S5, and the salesperson mentioned I could get this tablet for free, with only the extra cost of $10 per month that adds an extra GB of data to our plan. It sounds like an awesome deal; in the end, you wind up paying $240 for it since you're locked in a contract for it for 2 years. That still doesn't sound like a bad deal if you compare the price of other tablets. THEN you actually use it.

The first thing I noticed was that this tablet feels bulky for its screen size. It seems to be physically sturdy, but the screen seems smaller than it should for some reason. The first thing I do with my devices is to start customizing them, and I noticed that its very difficult to set a wallpaper that doesn't end up looking grainy. After some research, I found some people have noted that the screen only displays up to 720p. That's a little disappointing for a modern tablet.

I want to list some positives about this tablet, but in all honesty I can't really think of any worth noting. This tablet fails to really exceed at any task whatsoever. It runs apps and games from the store fairly well, though Google itself has already started crashing occasionally. After owning it for three days, the settings app crashes when trying to open the display settings. There is no native Miracast functionality. Both cameras are awful.

Battery life is extremely short; you can run it down in about 2 hours or so of constant use, and it takes about 6 hours to fully recharge.

Verizon delivers this device with pre-loaded apps. In fact, it has so many pre-loaded apps that it uses nearly all the storage partition available for apps. If you attempt to delete the pre-loaded apps you are warned that the device might not work properly. If you do not delete some apps, you will not have sufficient storage available for the most simple of tasks -- like getting your email. A software update was supposed to fix the issue but it did not increase the size of the storage partition for apps. What you end up with is storage advertised at 8GB and only 4GB usable. And even the usable space is hindered by the pre-loaded apps. You are hereby warned that this is junk. Buy at your own risk.
