We have an older air card that is not supported with our new Chromebook and so after calling Verizon, we were told that since we were under contract, we could not upgrade our old air card for another year. We could however purchase this model and then call them back to set up getting a new SIM card and also to transfer service to the new air card, blah, blah, blah. SO, I ordered this model and not only did it arrive much sooner than expected, but all I did was pop the SIM card out of the old air card and put it in the this new model and then connect to the Chromebook and vuala, worked perfectly!

There was no cd for the program and no sim card with it al,so to me it is a piece of junk When I buy something,I expect to more or less to plug and play,and yes I am a Verizon customer and when I got my old USB727 and had it for years and is a 3G and had absolutely no problems what so ever and did not have to contact Verizon to get connected what so ever.
To say the least i am disgusted!

Made my own version of a mifi hotspot with this and a little portable WAP from TPLink. What is nice about the combo, over something like a netgear jetpack or similar battery operated product, is that not having a battery mean it can operate for months on end with no user attention needed. Just threw a jetpack SIM card in there, hooked it up to PC first to make sure it worked and was connected, then attached it to the miniWAP and logged into that to make sure it recognized the USB modem, and it was up and running. Worked much better in terms of reception than jetpack too.

Requires special program to install and operate. The device does not come with the disk to install said program. This alone defeats much of the purpose of this device, as you will need internet to download the program to run this device so you can have internet.

Once I got the device running, it seemed to work fine. Would not work on my xbox, as the program to use this device cannot be installed on my xbox. Returning, as my phones hotspot is a better and more universal solution.

I have nothing to compare it to, but it worked like a charm out in the middle of Nowhereville in Texas! MY only problem was I forgot how to activate it on my second trip, and because I had no phone and no computer I could not contact Verizon for help! So... I was up the proverbial creek without a paddle. I felt very stupid when I went back to Verizon to tell them I couldn't remember- geez, it really WAS easy. I'm just techno-challenged I guess! Even so, I was able to use it in subsequent trips without a hitch!
I would strongly recommend this product to anyone wanting a wireless modem for travel. I suppose it would be just as good for at-home use, I just never used it for that.

I got one of these for doing some speedtests with a new router ($99 Dovado Tiny) that has a USB port for backup Internet access. I got a new SIM-card from Verizon and signed up for a 5Gbyte monthly plan (month-by-month - no long term agreement). No problems so far. Popped it in my Windows 8 laptop to test it out before using it on my router, installed VZ manager and was up and running in no time. But never got any 4G/LTE speeds. It only connected in 3G in a major metropolitan area.

In the beginning I got 4G/LTE speeds momentarily (seconds), at start up, then it quickly switched over to 3G and showed 4G/LTE as unavailable.

I called Verizon support, that was very helpful, had me run tests, and advised me to uninstall and then download and re-install a newer version of the VZ Manager. I did so but still had problems that it never connected on 4G for more than a few seconds during start-up. 3G had full signal strength (5 of 5 bars), but LTE was showing as unavailable. My iPhone showed 5 bars and LTE.

Verizon support advised me to replace (for free) the SIM-card at a Verizon store. Just did so, but still having the same problem. Support now thinks it is a bad modem. I am just about to return it... Thereof my 2 stars for selling broken modems...
