I said the same in my review of "The Ride Majestic." It doesn't catch you instantly; though I frankly love the way the albums starts with the groovy Verkligheten (meaning reality in English). Well the "reality" is, the album is strong.
Bjorn Strid is in tremendous vocal shape. I believe this is mainly due to the excellent vocal work on side project The Night Flight Orchestra. By the way, if you haven't, buy all 4 of their albums and you won't be disappointed. Speaking of which...yes, Verkligheten does have some stuff that sounds like really hard cuts off any TNFO albums. However, the album is very melodic while maintaining the heaviness that Soilwork has established the last 20 years. It feels like a logical next album to "The Ride Majestic."
I like pretty much everything here, but standout tracks are: Arrival, Stalfegel, The Wolves Are Back In Town (Thanks Thin Lizzy) and Needles and Kin (wow, love Strid's high pitched scream "She has heard you, every world UNFURLED!). So again, if you know Soilwork, you know what to expect. If you don't, pick it up. Not their strongest work, but continues an impressive streak of albums from 2010: The Panic Broadcast, The Living Infinite, The Ride Majestic, Death Resonance (old and new cuts, outtakes) and new Verkligheten. Also, check out everything The Night Flight Orchestra has done. Strid excels at clean vocals on those albums.

A number of my favorite bands have recently disappointed me with some of their latest work, Machine Head in particular with "Catharsis". I was hesitant to jump into Verkligheten because I'd been burned so recently, but after several hours of listening to the new album, I can confidently say it is as good as as anything they've done in the past 10-15 years or so. I'd rank it right up there with Sworn to a Great Divide and Stabbing the Drama, and certainly above The Ride Majestic and The Panic Broadcast (both of which I liked, but not quite as much). It blends what I'd call their mid-classic sound (anything after Natural Born Chaos or so) with some of the newer stylings from The Ride Majestic and to a lesser extent The Living Infinite (which is in a class all of its own) into something that works very well on its own. The variations in speed and pace of the tracks, as well as Bjorn's vocal range present do not disappoint and compare favorably to the 20 year catalog I've been following of the band.

If you said this is Soilwork's best ever, I would not argue with you. I personally believe Death In General still reigns for me. However, Verklighten is solid and, while it may not have huge standout tracks on it like Death In General, ( I still could not tell you which song is my favorite on here) it has more variation than anything the band has put out before. I do not skip one song and the flow from one song to the next is fantastic. I hear some influences on thsi offering I had not heard this band incorporate before. These guys have grown and matured into one of the best bands over the past 5 years or so. I typically would get 3 or 4 songs from each album but I have loved the last two. It took a while to get (almost 4 years) but worth the wait. It's early in the year but I bet this ends up being one of my favorite albums of 2019. You can't go wrong getting this CD.

So on this latest soilwork album they release a album filled with solid songs, with great vocals and good musicianship. This is their first album without Dirk on drums, and basically continues in the same vein as their previous albums. I’d say this one has more of an emphasis on the keys and melody. I’d say speed strid’s vocals are the high point of this entire album.
My main issues with this album is although the songs are good they are just not very memorable to me personally. After hearing it a handful of times nothing is really making me want to come back to it. Sadly this has been an issue with the last 2 albums for me personally, although I will say the ride mejestic had a handful of memorable songs, and living infinite had lots of great songs. When I hear this album it just makes me want to go back to the panic broadcast, natural born chaos, a predators portrait, and the albums from that era and earlier. Even after all the time that has passed since their release the songs hold up. Also the guitar solos just aren’t as memorable on this album too. So that’s why I give it 3 stars.. good album yes, but quickly forgettable for me.

The songs are so damn catchy that they have kept me up at night, many nights!
They have become masters of their art.
It is like killswitch engage, darkest hour and unearth had a beautiful baby. I recommend this to any fan of the above.
From start to finish, this album takes you on a journey. And the vocals and guitar are beyond top knotch. But the drums seriously steal the show. I can hardly remember a time when the drumming caught my attention to such a degree. That man is a machine, an absolute beast. Love it!
I can't pick apart anything on this record.
Vocals..perfect.
Gutars..perfect.
Drumbs..absolutely amazing and perfect.
My favorite album of the year so far, and it has set a very high bar for any contenders!

The 11th studio album released for Soilwork does not disappoint. Lots of good tracks on this album. Bleeder Despoiler, The Wolves are Back in Town, Full Moon Shoals, You Aquiver - so many good tracks on this album. Sound is similar to The Ride Majestic and Living Infinite more so than the older albums.
Of note, the album version of Stalfagel is different than the animated music video that was released prior to the albums release and features a supporting vocalist along with Strid. I dont think the album version of the song is as strong as the promotional release version.
Overall, loving this album

Been a fan of Soilwork for many years. They still continue to impress me with each new album. There's nothing especially groundbreaking or unique about this album. It's more of what you've come to expect from them. For me, that's a good thing, because I very much like their style.

The album is fantastic. Soilwork have once again excelled. BUT - if you're ordering this note there is no download code in the vinyl and Amazon aren't doing Autorip. Just a word of warning.

Great. Soilwork have again hit The mark. As with all melodic metal you need to give it time to grow on you.
