This is a log grade, cheap quality tap holder. It is great for the price if your use is only occassional, but if you are a professional and use taps daily, this tap holder does not appear to have the quality that is needed to provide years of use.

I had a recent project where I had to tap 26 1/4" holes to 5/16-18 thread in cold rolled steel. I have used chucked tap handles before with success, but the longer handles on this one - and the very precise jaws that hold the tap in place - make it just a breeze to use. The added leverage makes it easy to control how much force you're applying, and reduces hand fatigue. The design actually makes for a nice recessed area for your thumb to rest, giving you a bit of control over downward pressure as well. The knurled handles also help to keep your hands from slipping when they get coated in cutting oil.

I don't know that the process went any faster - it's not really about speed anyway - but it was definitely far easier.

If you have a lot of threads to tap (or any for that matter), this handle is the way to go. Love this thing.

The body is made of aluminum alloy (cast) so it is not a "professional" grade to me. The jaws have significant play. I will use it but I am disappointed with the purchase. To me it is a tool barely acceptable for one or two easy projects.

I bought this along with a M12x1.75 tap (I had to go to Amazon for that, too or drive around all day looking for this size and thread). I was trying to mount a trailer hitch and all my bolt holes were rusted up. I could only use this tool on one hole because the gas tank and exhaust pipe were in the way and I didn't have an extension. Anyway, there's nothing real special about it. I just didn't have to drive around looking for one.

Product does what its supposed to but my complaint really is about the fact that when you tighten around the tap - it barely holds and un-tightens very quickly - its just a little annoying, however if you want something cheap and do the job, this should do the trick. I feel like if the tightening system also had a spring to keep it from unscrewing so easily it would probably be a great product.

well it did not take very long to break it...The metal came apart at the conners. The conners shattered, it indicates the metal they used was not up to the job and should have used an alloy like 4140 steel very good for mechanical stresses.
Bottom line Harbor Fright tool Chine made.
P.s I got hurt using this tool!

I have a tap that is 3/8" at the base and unfortunately it doesn't fit this. A 5/16" base might fit it. I was thinking 1/4" to 1/2", but that's not the measurement range for the base of a tap.
I was too lazy to send it back, so I just filed it down a bit. Definitely a quality item.

They use cheap metal for the center piece that the handles screw into. Broke on me the second time I used it while trying to extract a broken bolt. May be strong enough if you're only going to use it for tapping.
