Note that the premise is that this is written first-person many years after the fact, which can lead to some parts that stick out oddly. The events took place in Memorial Day weekend 2007, but contain a reference to the movie Frozen (2013). A later part where Veronica uses "out of towner" New York lingo followed by a self-deprecating reference wasn't really necessary or add a lot to the story, though it's good to see Warner Brothers left a bit of leeway in referring to Veronica's years in New York, which was a movie plot point.
End of Chapter 8 has (what appears to be) a shoutout to season 1 cast member Sydney Tami'i Poitier, by referring to a fictitious CW star "Sydney Porter." This seemed (to me) to either trying a bit too hard for meta jokes, or a careless slip that is too close to an overeager reference drop - maybe diehard Sydney Poitier fans loved it, though.
The Die Hard quote - which was amazing in book one, was overplayed by book 2.
