Use the Y screwdriver to remove 4 screws on the joycon.
Use the X screwdriver to remove the screws from the joycon.
Take down the small iron with the tweezers
Then take the original lock buckle out carefully.
Then put the spring into the metal lock buckle.
Put the metal lock buckle into the joycon and press the spring into the slot.
Finally, put back the small iron and the screw. Close the joycon case back.

Update: I figured out why I had a problem with these on the first installation. I did not realize that replacement metal latches (just like the plastic OEM ones) are angled on one side. This is to allow one to slide the controllers onto the rails easily while holding firm when you try to remove them. I had not noticed this before, and after some fidgeting, realize that I installed the replacements "backwards". Removed, reinstalled, and now all is well. A simple graphical insert would do wonders to help others avoid the same issues. After seeing so many videos/posts online about modders who've stripped screws or wore down the threads on the Switch's plastic frame, I was hoping to take the controllers apart only once rather than twice. Lesson learned at least!

Easy installation, but these do not appear to be strong enough to resolve the issue with detaching the switch controllers accidentally. I can still very easily slip the controllers on/off the switch without depressing the appropriate button. Very disappointed.

Okay, so first I'm just going to say these fixed the issue with the plastic ones not holding on (due to them getting nicked). In fact, I'd say they hold better than the plastic oem pieces ever did.

Now, about the tools. Just to put it into perspective of how bad they are - they are so bad, they can't even strip the screws. The handle on them is absolutely horrid, and digs into your skin, especially if you have big hands like me. And worst of all, they just don't work. The screws never even budged when using them, even when pressing g down with all my strength. Still have the marks on my hand from that handle digging into my skin.

So, on that note, BUY A SEPERATE TOOL KIT!! I suggest something from ifixit, most of those come with some kind of tri-wing screwdriver, and those work perfectly.

Im rating 3 stars because the actual replacement piece worked perfectly. The included tools were just bad enough to dock 2 stars off. Yes, I recommend these to anyone having problems with joy-cons sliding off, definitely. But BUY A SEPERATE TOOL KIT!!

Weird Packaging + Incorrect Screwdriver

I order this set to replace a loose joy-con lock (no duh right). The first thing I noticed was the weird packaging they used, saying it was a switch HDMI adapter and stand. I was initially relieved after opening it and seeing the two screwdrivers, metal locks, and that I had the newer bundle with the tweezers (which the description states is random). However, while the red screwdriver is presumably the correct sized philips head, the blue one is not a tri-wing screwdriver or y-shaped screwdriver. It is instead a star, and absolutely useless for opening the joy-con. Upsetting, considering that the correct screwdrivers were the main reason to pick this set. Will be returning.

Works fantastic. I would assume most of these bad reviews are from people who installed the wrong lock into their Joy-cons. There is a left and right lock for each Joy-con but they are not labeled in the packaging, which is my only con I could give this product. When you take off the plastic lock on your Joy-Con, just make sure to match it to one of the metal ones, otherwise they will not lock and you'll be upset like all these one star reviews. I made this mistake at first and my device would not lock. I corrected the issue and it works great now.
I did not use the included drives so I can't speak about their quality but if your going to be opening up your Joy-Cons I highly recommend getting professional grade drivers like an iFixit kit.

Haven't installed the lock buckles yet as the originals are still ok. I did use the screwdrivers. The y-driver is made of fairly soft metal. The teeth stripped out after only one screw. I did find that if you blunt the end of the driver a bit it works much better on stubborn joycon screws. My only real recommendation for improvement would be the driver handle. The small, rock-hard plastic handle has few contours, none of them vertical, so the handle is really hard to grip while trying to get torque on a screw. Eventually, it got the job done with NO damage to the screws. I'd say it was worth the money.

I received the old model twice, so I can't speak to the new version that supposedly exists. The distributor seems to think that the head is the same on the new ones, but who knows since they couldn't actually send me an updated kit.

The buckle pieces themselves are great and fix the problem perfectly, but the Y screwdriver they include is not the correct size/shape. I tried two separate kits and both of them would do nothing but strip the screws, no matter how careful I was.

I purchased a screwdriver kit from someone else that came with the CORRECT Y-screwdriver and getting the screws in and out was effortless.

I just installed the metal lock buckles on my right joy con and it worked just fine. I think the people who left the 1 star reviews lost the spring, used the wrong piece, or didn't put the small black button back on the correct way which all three can result in your joy-con not locking in place. I also got 2 left pieces and 2 right pieces. The tools worked just fine. Initially taking the screws out was slower than expected as there seemed to be glue or something on the ends once I completely unscrewed them and looked at the tips. none the less - the product was perfect and got here right on time.

I found the instructions to be a little lacking. The tools were adequate to the task and the job was over in 20 minutes (for two Joy-Cons). There is a tiny spring that you must remove from the old plastic part, and replace into the new metal part. It has to be compressed to insert it back into the controller, and will jump away and vanish into the carpet if you are not careful. There are also two thin cables connecting the front and back halves of the controller that can get torn if you handle it too roughly. Now I have two locking Joy-Cons again, and am about to replace the other two.

I cannot recommend this kit for repair without adept knowledge of electronics and tool care, because the screw drivers are very poor quality metal wise and very soft metal. If you do use the tools file down the tips to reduce stripping and breaking of the screw drivers, also the lock buckles themselves are inaccurate in size, the ones I received were too big and wouldn't allow the joycons to lock into place correctly, so overall it's a 1 star, my apologies to seller.

This did the trick and I was able to fix the joycons thumb sticks relatively easily. Not too complicated. My advice is this. Take it easy with the screw drivers. Hold them firmly in place as you turn. They are cheap and will deform easily enough. Outside that everything else is good quality.
