I had to get an external CD/DVD drive/burner because my new Mac does not have one internally. I bought another drive which promised to work with Mac OS X; but I had upgraded to Big Sur-11.1 which resulted in the computer's not recognizing that drive. I hunted around and settled upon this one having been assured it would work. The unit arrived in a timely fashion, it looks good (matches the silver color of my Mac-- I took a pic but couldn't get it to upload here), fits well, and it is easy to use -- I didn't even have to rely on the instructions. I like that it only needs one cable in that it's powered by my MacBookPro. The USB-to-C works. I plugged it in and we were up and running. Only drawback is that it can be a tad noisy when getting started to play; but it quiets down soon enough. I've seen other units that have a channel groove on the bottom to store and protect the cable which would be nice if I might make a suggestion. So far so good!

Have a computer without a DVD Writable drive? No sweat!

Over the years I've built an extensive collection of CDs and DVDs for both—work and recreation— only to find that none of my current computers have a DVD writable drive any longer. This product has solved the dilemma for me. It arrived shortly after I ordered it and was an intuitive experience right out of the box. It comes with a USB and Lightning Bolt adapter so I can plug it in easily into any of my computers. Best part, with my mac's it required no effort other than plugging it in to access my music and files. It is also quieter than I was expecting.

Only negative is that when I was the drive on a non-solid surface or if I moved my computer moves it did cause the drive to disconnect. So it worked well as long as it didn't move.

I was looking for a cheap DVD drive, as my only use was to copy files from a disc included with a book. Of course, when you are looking for something cheap, you are often throwing money away on items that don't work, as I discovered from reviews of other similar products, and from past experience. But this drive is affordable, and it works.

When you plug it into your computer, as the crystal clear instructions indicate, don't use a hub. Plug it in directly. As soon as I plugged it in, it started to whir and buzz. I'm on an iMac. I knew the drive would not show up on the desktop, but when I inserted a disc, the DVD did appear. To eject, I right-clicked "eject", and out it came.

I had to copy some large files, and I found the speed to be acceptable, especially since I was just using USB 2.0, and not the included adapter.

The wire is short, and the drive is very light, so it tended to spin to the side on my smooth desk. Before inserting the disc, I had to hold onto it, so it wouldn't move. That would be easily rectified if it were placed on a less smooth surface.

I haven't used it for anything else, and doubt I will ever need to, but it served my purpose, and it looks very nice with a small footprint. Recommended.

It was super lite. So much so it worried me. Pulling it out the bag it looked like low quality dime store toy product. Turning it over I saw the imperfections in the casing. It didn’t look like it should sit next to my m1 MacBook Pro. It didn’t look or feel like it would last very long and I need one to travel with. It had to go back.

I like the price of this product. I like that this product is plug and play. It worked for my macbook and imac. I don't like that it is so loud when it is reading disks. I don't like how sometimes it won't eject a disk. It has happened only once but this one disk would not eject. So I had to unplug my usb and plug back in and spam the eject button. But I got the disk out and the drive worked will after that.
