I must admit that I purchased this CD used with a somewhat negative attitude. Reason being, I had already downloaded some of these songs from iTunes (same album). I was not very impressed with what I heard so I decided to get the CD. More often than not if you purchase the same CD that you may have downloaded from iTunes you will get superior sound from the CD. I also read the above reviews and "still spinning vinyl" was not overly impressed. I can see his point. I would love to hear these in true Mono if available. That being said, I think that this is one great CD. Everything is in stereo but there's Bass here. Maybe a little more on some songs would help but I'm nitpicking here. We all have our thoughts about how a CD should sound. These recordings are very clean with no distortion with the exception of Stairway To Heaven. The song sounds a little muffled to me. Not enough to wreck the recording but somewhat distracting. I would give this song 3* and everything else 5*. I'm not going to downgrade this CD for one 3* and everything else being 5*. The one surprise here is "You Mean Everything To Me". This sounds very much like a Paul Anka record. I had never heard it before but what a great song. I highly recommend this CD and do not regret my purchase. I got this used from a great seller with no scratches or damage to the jewel case and the liner notes are perfect.

I've done the research, and I'm (pretty) sure this is the only CD that has all 13 of Neil's Top 40 hits for RCA from 1959-63. It also has better sound and photos than its prime competitor, "All-Time Greatest Hits". While "ATGH" has no liner notes, "Very Best Of" has pretty good ones written by Michael Hill. Despite all this, ATGH remains in print while VBO, tied in to the increasingly-less-timely 100th anniversary of RCA's inception in 2001, is not. Grab this while it's still available used, and cheap!

I have most of Neil Sedakas Hit Singles from when they were first released on 45 RPM so I am more than familiar with the original sound. I bought this CD as it contained those songs plus a few additional ones that I do not recall as being Hits here in the USA.

As with many re-issues of older material on CD, the sound has been so called " Digitally ReMastered " which to me, makes this CD not as authentic as the orignal 45RPM issues of Neils original Hits. What I think I am going to have to do is re-record this CD ( for my own personal use ) by putting both stereo channels together and hope the Monaural sound comes closer to the way these songs were originally meant to be heard.

It is a good CD if you want a clean sound, they are the original RCA Victor Hit recordings, just separated into 2 channels. I wish on these re-issue CD recordings they would not " Tamper " with the original presentation, even if it is Mono.
