My kid (8) loves to read. She loves little facts and tidbits. She's also trying to up her AR game. The mermaid version of this book is not on the AR test, but the unicorn version is. My daughter read both anyway, as she is deeply passionate about all things mermaid and unicorn.

And how cool is it to learn how far back the lore goes? My daughter loved things like learning the national animal of Scotland is a unicorn. We are Scottish, so this is like an extra badge of pride.

The wording isn't overwhelming and the pictures keep your interest. The book is just long enough to get the point across. My kid has read this book and the mermaid one about 5 times each now.

And the thing I like most is it keeps the lore going. There's still room for "what if."

Amazing book for children! I bought this for my great niece, but I read it twice myself before giving it to her!
It is fascinating to hear why different countries believed in this magical creature!

This Christmas my niece asked me for a unicorn. She already has too many stuffed unicorns, but since she is learning to read, I thought a book about them would be great. This checks all the boxes. It has no falsehoods saying that there are infact unicorns; It has stories from cultures all over the globe; talk about the actual ancient Siberian unicorns (yup thats a thing); and the unicorn horn craze during medieval times. It's all completely true, all quite informative, and has lovely illustrations! My niece will love it!
