It seems very well made. It's heavy, but not so much that it's tiring to use. In fact, if it wasn't, it would feel cheaply made. At the time of this review, I've taken apart about 15 pallets and there are no structural issues with it at all.
However - don't take my word for it. I love this product so much, I recorded a quick two minute video showing how easy it is to use. I also included a few pictures as well.
The Vestil pallet buster has literally changed the way I feel about stripping a pallet. It's never been an easy task until now. The head bends allowing it to slowly pop the board off the 2x4 without breaking it. It pulls the nails up with it which is even better since I reuse those as well. It's simple and quiet which my neighbors love. I've already used it at the shipping location where I get my used pallets from as well. I can do it behind their building during business hours and only bring home the wood I want. The only negative I can find is that it almost might be too sturdy. It starts to feel heavy after a period of time.
Bottom line, if you are looking to work smarter and not harder this tool is a must have for reclaiming free pallet lumber in a simple sustainable way.
Had seen some Cool Pallet walls others had done, and decided to Do mine with Pallets.
The Pallets were fairly easy to find and Collect, but taking them apart proved a Little Tough.
Most pallet Builders use a Screw Shank Nail with Glue to put these Together.
I started taking Mine apart with a Flat Bar and a Sawzall, which worked but VERY TIME Consuming.
Once I saw this Heavy Duty Pallet Buster-I had to have one!
It did the Work with half the Effort,Broke a 1/4 of the Pallet Boards and is Very Sturdy Rugged!!
Pallets are Mad of several different types of Woods-Pine,Oak,Poplar,Hemlock etc...
The Oak ones are sturdiest and the Pallet Buster can Pull them apart.
Some of the Lighter Pine ones-THE Buster Will Pull the Nails through the Board without breaking them.
Better to work Slow and Let it do it's Work
I pulled out my Google-foo and discovered pallet busters. I saw home made ones, commercial ones, hydraulic ones, a whole menagerie of them. Then I started searching through amazon. This buster has the articulating bottom, meaning it's more gentle on the wood and moves how it needs to with the strength still to pull them right out. The pallet we used this on initially has been outside for at least 6 months. We also used it on a newer one and it pulled it apart much easier. It wont prevent it from continuing existing cracks. So, if your pallet is broken in any place, it wont prevent it from getting worse. a crack will, most likely, get bigger.
Going from full pallet to boards took us about 15 min. I had to stand on one side of the pallet to keep it from lifting up while my husband pulled the boards off. Also, the pallets we got are BEEFY! So the gaps to put the buster are SMALL and difficult to insert into the first board. If anyone knows how to start that first board without needing it resting on the vertical pallet support, i'd LOVE to know! It needs the elevation from the board to use as the fulcrum and press against as it lifts the boards off of it. That's why we had to go in between the boards to pull the first board. We also discovered that it worked easier if we used it on the outside nails first, then worked our way in.
I'm so happy that we bought this. We've shown our neighbors and they will be sharing the pallets and we will be sharing the buster. Win, win, win all around! I definitely recommend this beefy buster to anyone that wants to reuse pallet wood!
