The spray is easily tolerable to him and we saw a huge change just overnight. This spray also seems to penetrate and work better with his thick hair, so those of you with thicker coated dogs may appreciate that. He also never licked at the areas with this like he did other treatments. In combination with Douxo's PS shampoo sold here ( http://amzn.to/1fh5IEv ), he no longer has any nasty flare ups like he used to.
Easy five-stars for making my boy more comfortable.
Thanks for reading. If you found my review helpful, let me know by clicking "Yes" below, it helps me write better reviews. I also try to respond to all comments. Take care!
I like Vetericyn because it's easy to use and seems to work fast. It's safe for eyes so I'm not afraid to spray it all over their head/face when they have gotten head injuries. A lot of my birds are timid and don't like to be picked up; this product is very easy to use on them (I separate them from the others and just spray iron them while they are in a cage).
I am cheap, so this was a lot of money for me to spend but it is well worth it! Probably the best thing to have on hand if you own pets. Lucky for me, I don't have to use a lot, so it has lasted me a while. But when I get low, I will be buying more. It is a must have!
Sorry the photos are graphic but you can see the first picture is the chick's head injury. The second picture is the following day. I used Vetericyn 3 times. Her head looks wet from the medicine but look at how much the hole closed! Plus, the gash wasn't as deep! It was incredible to see that amount of healing overnight. This chick is prefctly healthy and doing great!
Please - just go to the Vetericyn website and check out the before-and-after trauma photos of various critters.
I use it on my dogs, horses, cattle, and myself.
Zero sting, even in eyes and mucous membranes. (How'd they manage that?)
It's as close to magic as a topical wound-management spray can get.
Superb for hot spots on dogs, rain rot on horses, sunburn, chemical burn, thermal burn, lacerations/avulsions/punctures anywhere on the body, conjunctivitis, herpesvirus, thrush/whiteline, acne, non-systemic fungal infections...
I will never be without two or three bottles of this product.
FINALLY, I ordered this product and within a week he was 80% improved with sores and oozing healed up.
This was the protocol I used for him (in case anyone has had the same struggle with their pet's skin going crazy):
First, we went a bit more aggressive with the prednisolone (2 5mg tablets a day for first 3 days [9.5 lb kitty] and then tapered to 1 5mg tablet a day for 7 days and then every other day for another 7).
Second, I trimmed the hair around his problem areas down almost to a 'pig shave' so that I could more easily treat his condition (I hated to cut his beautiful fur but this was no time to worry about his appearance).
Third, I gently combed/debrided off the crusts with a flea comb and shampooed and rinsed his head and neck daily with baby shampoo while he sat on a towel in my lap, then dried his fur with a towel to mid-dampness and applied the Vetericyn Plus all over.
Fourth, because our cat already has failing kidneys we began administering subcutaneous fluids to him at home to ease his dehydration from not eating/drinking enough.
He's doing so much better after over a month straight of being in an E-collar and almost losing his will to live. Now he has the E-collar off and just a cut off sock around his neck so he can't scratch at himself and cause an infection.
Unfortunately, we took he had this same issue last year at the same time and we took him to a Dermatologist and we ruled out food allergies, so, unfortunately, our little guy has a seasonal allergy and all we can really do is try to keep the air clean and treat his symptoms until they subside.
Whatever you do, don't delay treating this scary, torturous skin condition, especially if your pet already has health issues or is an elder pet because it can mean life or death for some pets.
P.S. Oddly, our Vet had never heard of Vetericyn when I had brought it in to show him but he nodded approvingly when he read the label. Hopefully, he'll suggest it for other pet owners now that he knows about it!
