If you're looking to stock a first aid kit, go ahead and order it. If you have a current need, get it somewhere else. I ordered this to make a splint for my dog's weak wrists and it took all of 2 weeks to get here. They didn't even stick it in the mail until 5 days had passed. Product is fine. Be very careful with the corners after you cut to size!

The product was pretty easy to shape and looked like it would provide good support, especially for an injury. We needed it for an elderly dog whose hind feet and legs were becoming quite wobbles and difficult for her to control. We hoped that the splinting material would provide some rigidity and stability for her sweet floppy feet and ankles. It did work pretty well, but had a tendancy to slide forward and off her foot when she squatted down to relieve herself...just when she needed the support the most to help her be able to stand up again. The fact that it was ridiculously rainy for three weeks didn't help the bandaging stay in place. All in all, the product performed surprisingly well, and it was clear it would have been excellent for its normal uses. She is doing better and the weather is better as well. Yay for spring.

Pretty good stuff. We used this for a small dog that basically had a bone bruise, but the vet didn't want to put a full cast on since it was so small. We got this, trimmed it up and put it on during certain parts of the day to immobilize her so she could heal up without limping around all day. After about a week of on/off, she healed up and it's still in a usable condition (used only inside on carpet).

With that said, I would get tin-snips to trim it down. It'll kill your nice scissors if you trim it with them. The trimmed surface can also have a small metal seam which can damage wood floors and such, so be careful and either trim it so you can form up around the bottom of whatever, or use tape across the bottom so you don't get any issues on your floors.

In the end, I bought another roll just to have "just in case".

I've used SAM splints many times before, but like the veterinary version a little better for my personal bag. The veterinary version's inner aluminum is twice as thick as standard SAM splints making it a little more rigid and sturdy.

This says vet Sam splint but it wasn't what i go in the mail. The vet kind has a dog on the picture and this was thinner. The product did work as long as my dog left it alone.

Needed to use them to assist a premie foal, and they worked as needed until we could get more permanent (albeit temp) splints
