Innovation, Quality, Performance
For more than 75 years, Vibram has been a trusted leader in performance and innovation. Our founder, Vitale Bramani, lived in Milan, Italy and developed the first rubber sole on a mountaineering boot, which changed the way the people moved, up down, and across the Earth forever. Vitale’s experience as a mountain guide and climber in the Italian Alps convinced him of the need for performance rubber soles on footwear. What followed was a success story and the production of millions of soles for the best shoes in the industry. In 2006, Vibram introduced the next generation of innovative performance sole design: one that can make us more aware of our feet and more connected to our environment. We call it Vibram FiveFingers.
Getting to Know your Feet
Wearing a pair of Vibram FiveFingers is very different from wearing conventional footwear. The thin, flexible, and deconstructed sole allows the foot to curl and flex. The toes are separated – just like on our feet! Because of these features, every step taken in FiveFingers is an experience in texture, ground feedback, and awareness that can keep us better connected to our environment.
So, how are we supposed to do this minimalist/barefoot thing?
The truth is there isn’t a single correct approach. Vibram believes that moving and running in FiveFingers can make us more connected to the environment around us. Come join us and explore the joys of minimalist footwear.
Explore Different Surfaces Barefoot
Walking on Carpet
Feet are excellent at collecting 'information' and we believe that the feedback we get from our feet make us more aware of our environment, leading us to a better workout and a healthier lifestyle.
Walking on Stone
Walk on different surfaces. This is one of the most obvious and easiest ways to stimulate and exercise the foot. With bare feet or in Vibram FiveFingers, explore your home and its surroundings.
Walking on Dirt
Notice how your feet feel on smooth vs. rough surfaces and try to sense/recognize the signals that your feet send to your brain.
Walking on Pebbles
You may notice that your foot strike and stride will adjust to different surfaces when barefoot. Experiment on safe, controlled terrain such as grass, carpeting, pavement, dirt, pebbles, and smooth rock – keeping your eyes open for potential hazards or unfriendly objects.
Vibram Bikila EVO
An ideal running shoe for those making the transition from traditional to minimalist shoe. The thinner sole lets you feel your run and connects you to your running environment for a confident barefoot running experience.
Medium distance running in a minimalist shoe can be challenging for new minimalist users. It takes time for your foot to adjust to an increasingly thinner level of sole. The Vibram FiveFingers Bikila Evo Running Shoe is a fully redesigned shoe tailored for those looking for a shoe that provides the benefits of going barefoot with slightly more cushioning to offer more comfort on a medium distance road run. The sole is slightly thicker than other Vibram shoes to provide a bit more underfoot to ensure confidence while making the switch to natural running. An EVA midsole offers further cushioning and protection, without adding weight. The shoe also features Vibram Megagrip rubber pods on the sole, ensuring extra durability and grip. A polyester mesh upper allows your feet to breathe, helping to keep them cool and comfortable during intense periods of training. The FiveFingers lacing system provides a snug and secure fit.

To anyone curious about purchasing these shoes, my suggestion would be to locate a store that sells them, be properly sized and try on several different styles, before doing so. I did just that, and decided to go one size larger than was recommended, settling on the "Bikila" version. I would further suggest reading and/or watching videos on proper running form. My experience is that these shoes force you to become a mid-foot striker and not understanding the importance of this will make your experience very uncomfortable.
Overall, I can not say enough about how much I have benefitted from wearing these shoes. My feet have visibly changed and become stronger. No more weak arches, no more shin splints and knee pain is at a minimal. I do find that my calves often get tight, but regular foam rolling and stretching prevents it from becoming an issue.
I find that these shoes last me about a year (with daily use) and when compared to buying 3-4 pair of running shoes a year, I would say that they are a good investment. Thank you for a solid product and for being part of my fitness longevity.
- been running in the original Bikiia model for about 5 years
- lighter than my original Bikilas (5 oz vs 7 oz each in size 46)
- better sole (thicker and more cushion)
- sole feels grippier on the road
- uppers are lighter and more breathable than original Bikila model
- laces provide good fit
- cut lower around the ankle/heel which is fine for running, may be an issue if used for lateral motion sports
- very good, will purchase again
UPDATE 201603: Purchased new shoes from a different seller in order to get ready for the spring season. This pair fit as advertised. No Bad stitching this time. Do wish there was slightly more padding as my former Fila used to have, but i'll give these a try this time.
the elliptical. I can't really hack running outside without cushioning yet. I wear Altras when outside. I also use Correct Toes. Hallux rigidus/limitus makes bending your toes up really painful, so rocker soles eliminate that bending, but wearing Bikilas on the elliptical, I can lift my heels less and keep the bending less than excruciating level. The Five Fingers at the gym makes my feet feel like they're in heaven, I think because the toe pockets gently suggest to my toes that they get into correct anatomical alignment. The Bikila's are comfy with toe socks or with no socks.
I used to think people who wore Five Fingers were dopes, by the way. Now I get it. Look at Northwest Foot and Ankle for info on good shoes and feet.
If you can, buy Five Fingers locally because they smartly have small gradations in sizing and getting just the right one really matters. If you can't buy locally, make sure to buy some place where you can return until you dial in the right size.
Durability seems OK but I've only been wearing them at the gym for 3 months, which isn't very hard on them. Washed them twice with no problems.
