I hope this perspective helps people into the future.
I strongly suggest buying them a size smaller than you think you need because A) they run large
B) a snug fit maximizes the amount of control and agility they offer on any given terrain.
Also, I wore them for the first 4.5 out of 5 years without socks ( struggling to keep them clean smelling 😬) but then I discovered the value and comfort that came with toe socks. It makes them so much more a pleasure to wear.
I really can’t say enough about these shoes.
Thank you. Take good care.
Also the side of the toe is starting to rip away.
As you can see from the tread wear these shoes have hardly been worn.
I'm very disappointed with my purchase.
I have used actual surf booties before and they were terrible for feel. With these I actually could feel the board and didn’t take long to adjust to them. However.. the Velcro straps are worthless. Obviously not designed for surfing or for staying on feet. I nearly lost them several times. The Straps don’t have enough Velcro, you cant cinch them down. I have no idea who would recommend buying these larger than you expect.. I have a narrow foot and wear size 11 Nike frees for running and i bought a size 43. They fit fairly snug when I tried them on but after some ocean use they stretched out.
My surf buddy has another pair of vibrams with a cinch strap and they did not have issues. Skip these and make sure you get a proper strap to cinch these on if you are going to use them in big surf.
I left mine for one of the staff members at Bobby’s camp and he was stoked to use them for walking on the reef to fish - they would be perfect for that.
I am missing a tendon in my ankle due to a bad set of sprains and these shoes give me the same great stability that I feel when walking barefoot. I can walk on uneven surfaces without any sense that I'm about to roll my ankle and fall over. When I wear regular shoes, I can only safely walk on perfectly smooth surfaces.
I think if I had known about Vibram, I probably wouldn't have sprained my ankle and tore my tendon to begin with. Not having the thick sole of a running shoe removes the extra stress on your tendon when things aren't perfectly flat. These are great and I now wear them any time I'm in the yard working. Even stepping on sharp rocks doesn't cause any pain which is great. They are like an extension of the pad of your feet.
My advice...go with one size smaller then you normally wear in shoes, they should be nice and snug, but not to snug, just right. One other thing that kinda sucked was the fine sand of Costa Rica (black sand in Jaco) really got into the shoe and filled them up, it was pretty uncomfortable but I just removed them occasionally and rinsed the sand out. Other than that they are awesome, feel awesome are very grippy and versatile. You will also get some compliments on how cool they look😉
Also the inside stitching have pressure points that jab my toes dealing unbearable discomfort to the point of aggravation.
I'm sure not every shoe is like that but black fabric for outdoor water activities was a dumb idea.
Just feels like the shoe was made in a hurry without much care. But, they are durable at least.

I used in the sea when i swim, climbing rocks to go in and out of the sea as well as on very steep paths, cleaned after to remove the salt and they come back as new.
fit perfectly I have a 42 european 8 in uk, but I chose to get the 41.5 in suropean and they fit great! very good grip, they look very strong even.
If you never wear a five fingers before, you just need to be careful, it use your toes and front of the foot more, making your calves very tired at first, but you will get used to it, it should also improve your walking/running.
I am super happy with this shoes and if they would have more elegant/night out style i would use it all the day!
