Innovation, Quality, Performance
For more than 75 years, Vibram has been a trusted leader in performance and innovation. Our founder, Vitale Bramani, lived in Milan, Italy and developed the first rubber sole on a mountaineering boot, which changed the way the people moved, up down, and across the Earth forever. Vitale’s experience as a mountain guide and climber in the Italian Alps convinced him of the need for performance rubber soles on footwear. What followed was a success story and the production of millions of soles for the best shoes in the industry. In 2006, Vibram introduced the next generation of innovative performance sole design: one that can make us more aware of our feet and more connected to our environment. We call it Vibram FiveFingers.
Getting to Know your Feet
Wearing a pair of Vibram FiveFingers is very different from wearing conventional footwear. The thin, flexible, and deconstructed sole allows the foot to curl and flex. The toes are separated – just like on our feet! Because of these features, every step taken in FiveFingers is an experience in texture, ground feedback, and awareness that can keep us better connected to our environment.
So, how are we supposed to do this minimalist/barefoot thing?
The truth is there isn’t a single correct approach. Vibram believes that moving and running in FiveFingers can make us more connected to the environment around us. Come join us and explore the joys of minimalist footwear.
Explore Different Surfaces Barefoot
Walk on Carpet
Feet are excellent at collecting information and we believe that the feedback we get from our feet make us more aware of our environment, leading us to a better workout and a healthier lifestyle.
Walk on Stone
Walk on different surfaces. This is one of the most obvious and easiest ways to stimulate and exercise the foot. With bare feet or in Vibram FiveFingers, explore your home and its surroundings.
Walk on Dirt
Notice how your feet feel on smooth versus rough surfaces and try to sense/recognize the signals that your feet send to your brain.
Walk on Pebbles
You may notice that your foot strike and stride will adjust to different surfaces when barefoot. Experiment on safe, controlled terrain such as grass, carpeting, pavement, dirt, pebbles, and smooth rock – keeping your eyes open for potential hazards or unfriendly objects.

These I bought for the winter walking in light snow!
Higher tops, but more on that below.
seemingly rugged soles (i'll find out in the Winter, but they look sturdy )
laces to tie up nice and tight!
I'm not sure how water resistant they'll be (I have low expectations as I'm pretty used to my feet getting a little wet)
I got a size that usually works, but my "index" toe is smaller than my big toe, and my toes taper fairly even down to my pinky toe, which is "smallish" though not freakishly so.
These apparently were designed for someone whose "index" toe is the same size as their big toe and the taper is more gradual than mine.
My pinky toe is barely saddled in the cutout for my pinky toe. If I were a runner, or these were my only pair this would not work for me.
I would not be getting the effect I like from wearing fingertoes.
However for my Winter uses I believe these will be ok
(BTW I do not think I could use a size smaller as my big toe would be pushing the edge, and since the dorsal region of my foot is high I would be able to put them into the high tops on so easily)
consider buying these a size smaller if your feet aren't weird like mine.
If these are going to be your only pair, I'd skip them and get another. Especially if you were planning on using them to run (these aren't really made to run anyway)
I love everything else about this shoe. Love the feel, fit and fabric (minus it's durability). The sole looks like It has barely been used. No other signs of significant wear throughout the shoe. I always wore my toe shoes with toe socks (I know the dangers of stink foot). Nonetheless both toes have holes large enough for my entire big toe to slip out and debris to fall in.
I'm giving this shoe 2 stars because I feel like I wasted saved up money for shoes that provided a month of satisfaction. I should have returned the shoes at the first sign of significant wear, but instead duct taped them and held on to them for those times I love to wear toe shoes (log walking, camping, etc). Now I missed my return window and am just one very unhappy customer.
