Medium distance running in a minimalist shoe can be challenging for new minimalist users. It takes time for your foot to adjust to an increasingly thinner level of sole. The Vibram FiveFingers Bikila Evo Women's Running Shoe is a fully redesigned shoe tailored for those looking for a shoe that provides the benefits of going barefoot with slightly more cushioning to offer more comfort on a medium distance road run. The sole is slightly thicker than other Vibram shoes to provide a bit more underfoot to ensure confidence while making the switch to natural running. An EVA midsole offers further cushioning and protection, without adding weight. The shoe also features Vibram Megagrip rubber pods on the sole, ensuring extra durability and grip. A polyester mesh upper allows your feet to breathe, helping to keep them cool and comfortable during intense periods of training. The FiveFingers lacing system provides a snug and secure fit.

UPDATE: I just ran my first 5k in these - I will never run in anything else again! My legs are getting so strong from walking and running in these that all my orthopedic issues are slowly disappearing. I am a huge fan. : )
Truth be told, I think the five-finger shoes all kind of look like weird alien feet - not my style preference regardless of color - but I LOVE them. They're great for walking and running once you get used to them. I also wear these for stair workouts a lot. I love the flexibility they offer (your foot moves more naturally like being barefoot vs restricted by heavy traditional shoes). I've even hiked in them some where the terrain is somewhat (but not overly) rocky. I intentionally chose this kind for its thicker sole so I wouldnt worry about stepping on rocks. They're surprisingly good but every now and then if you accidentally step on a larger rock and land on just the wrong spot you will feel it - but that doesn't happen often and mostly has happened when I've worn them on a trail that was probably too rugged.
Follow Vibram's instructions when you start wearing them for the first time because your body will need to gradually adjust. When you start wearing these you will likely feel your workout in different muscles than you're used to - that's not a bad thing, you just have to ease in to give your body time to adjust.
I actually decided to try these because I've always hated the feel of heavy running shoes / tennis shoes and socks - especially in warm weather. I mean - HATED it. These are the perfect choice for me. It takes a few tries to wiggle all of your toes in place the first few times but you get used to it pretty quickly. Lightweight, no socks required, flexible and breathable. I've machine washed them and air dried - all good. Great for traveling too because they don't weigh much or take up too much space.
