Ready to make your own, natural and fresh tortillas?
Start by making your masa dough according to the instructions on the package. For this example, we'll use Maseca: just mix 2 cups of Maseca, 1.25 cups of water, and a pinch of salt. Mix the dough until it has the consistency of Play Dough. Once ready, separate the dough into 16 small balls about 1.25 inch wide.
Setting up the plates
Pro tip! Cut a zip-top disposable plastic bag along the corners to make two square plastic sheets (usually the sandwich size is perfect). Place one of the plastic sheets on the bottom plate. Place a ball of dough slightly off-center, towards the closing hinge. Place the second plastic square on top. *(If you do not have zip-top bags, cling wrap or parchment paper can work too).
Press!
Close the top plate. The weight of the plate will help you press down, and the lever will help you finish the press firmly. Not too much force is necessary.
Peel and separate
Open the press, place the plastic covered tortilla on one hand, & peel off the top plastic with the other hand. Flip the tortilla over onto your other hand and now peel back the second plastic square. You can start putting your pressed tortillas directly on a hot griddle, or on a plate separated with sheets of parchment paper if you prefer to cook or freeze them later.

Update: The customer service was VERY responsive and immediately sent out a replacement arm. Unfortunately, the piece of the current arm is stuck in the press, so they went ahead and sent me a replacement press too. Very happy with customer service, now let's hope for better results from the new product.
- It is too heavy and takes at least 4 press to make flatbread. Chapatti needs flour not oil, so it sticks to the surface, plastic or even silicon.
- Not efficient as needs lot of pressure, chappati is not thin and needs to be rotated 4 time to achieve the desired thickness.
- GREAT ! for making PURIS or anything that requires oil. Grease the surface with brush /oil and place a small dough ball in the center. the PURI will be perfect round. It may not be as thin but does the job.
- AT THE END!! If anything needs oil to be rolled out, this press can do the job. Just need generous amount of greasing. Use this press for parathan, tortilla or Puri.
- NOT FOR CHAPATI/ROTI
- Not wanted to give a bad review just because it was not designed to make chapattis!!!
Top international reviews
It is durable and strong and heavy.
Cons:
Heavy
Small. Only very small size tortilla can be made.
Takes a lot trial and error to go know what gives the best outcome.
Need to position the dough a little off center/middle to have the perfect shape.
Due to basic design limitation, it makes uneven thickness. Thinner towards the handle joint.
Must use plastic on both sides of the dough. Makes the plastic the most important tool in the process.
Hard to estimate the right pressure to get the right thickness.
If you are looking for a quick and easy solution, it is not your thing. Only, if you don't want to do by rolling a stick, you may want have it but be ready to put effort to it.

The iron handle (not the hinge, the metal itself) snapped in half on the 5th tortilla I ever made with it.
The first four tortillas looked great.
I'd like to think it was a fluke defect but I can't figure out how to contact the vendor and see if I can try a replacement.
