Very high quality tortilla press. It does take practice however to use the press in the same way that you need to practice rolling out pie dough. You need to use a plastic ziploc bag over the press to keep the dough from sticking and you cannot roll out the dough too thin. Also the dough must have the perfect consistency which you can learn from any Mexican Chef! : )

This press is amazing!!! I bought it to make homemade paleo tortillas. The reviews saying this is only for corn tortillas is bogus. Also, if you are wondering about the handle, it is attached to the botton plate w/ a thick metal bolt and pin. They even send you an extra one. The majority of the pressing comes from the weight of the plates. If you are sticking a ball of dough on the plate pressing the plates down as far as they can go on the first press and then trying to press it the rest of the way out with the handle- you are using this item incorrectly and your handle will break off. Press, rotate, press, rotate, press rotate and them when it is almost as flat and round as you want it, use the handle to press for the final to achieve the thiness that you want. The other reciews about using parchment paper or plastic to press is critical. Also placing the dough closer to the hinge is valuable information. This product is well made. It takes serious misuse to snap a metal bolt. I almost didnt by this product because of this. Im glad I did and zi took the time to learn to use it properly b4 complaining it is an inferior product do to misuse.

Handle broke after a few uses.

On the bright side, it worked well for a while once we figured out to put plastic wrap over the press (don't even bother without plastic wrap, it sticks and doesn't get very flat). Unfortunately, the handle broke after just a few uses, so now it's fairly worthless. I expected better from Victoria, but I'll write to them to see if they'll fix it and update if I get a response.

Update: The customer service was VERY responsive and immediately sent out a replacement arm. Unfortunately, the piece of the current arm is stuck in the press, so they went ahead and sent me a replacement press too. Very happy with customer service, now let's hope for better results from the new product.

NOT FOR CHAPPATI/ROTI. GREAT for PURI / PARATHAN or anything that requires the plates to be greased for rolling.

I got this tortilla press for making chapattis/roti. But unfortunately, this is not an appropriate product for making rotis. Below are some points
- It is too heavy and takes at least 4 press to make flatbread. Chapatti needs flour not oil, so it sticks to the surface, plastic or even silicon.
- Not efficient as needs lot of pressure, chappati is not thin and needs to be rotated 4 time to achieve the desired thickness.
- GREAT ! for making PURIS or anything that requires oil. Grease the surface with brush /oil and place a small dough ball in the center. the PURI will be perfect round. It may not be as thin but does the job.
- AT THE END!! If anything needs oil to be rolled out, this press can do the job. Just need generous amount of greasing. Use this press for parathan, tortilla or Puri.
- NOT FOR CHAPATI/ROTI
- Not wanted to give a bad review just because it was not designed to make chapattis!!!

Very satisfied. I had been being cheap and doing tortillas by hand and rolling pin. You should put the dough slightly off center so it doesn't come out the side, or use a smaller dough ball. I would order again. Also, let the weight of the cast iron flatten the dough, not much strength needed to get the job done. Cast iron will shear if too much weight applied to the handle, although it's seems better built than it was in the picture of it broken. Remember it's not like steel. Enjoy!

I read the reviews of people who were disappointed with flimsy presses and they wished they bought a cast iron one.Now I have a cast iron one I can see why........this one is heavy and extremely strong,it doesn't warp and this makes it much easier to use. You need the weight of the machine so you don't have to use much force to compress the dough.I make individual thin crust pizza bases in it,and I bought a cast iron hot plate which is essential to cook tortillas on and I use it on my induction hob.Photan345

This product consistently produces perfect corn tortillas. Make sure to use waxed/baking parchment paper to stop the masa sticking. This product is not intended (as some people have complained) for producing flour tortillas, puris, rotis or chapatis. Solid, well-finished and decent value. The only issue was the couriers the item was handed to on arrival in the UK- it passed through the hands of 3 different couriers, and the final courier lied about trying to deliver it (I was in all that day). Luckily they sorted it out eventually.

I really wasn't expecting to use this very often, but now I'm hooked on these crazy tortillas! I used to use the bottom of a heavy pie plate, which worked quite well but not great. I had been contemplating getting a press for awhile and decided to try this one. It's not as heavy as I was expecting. It's small enough to easily store on it's side in the cupboard. I was a little paranoid about the handle from reading other reviews. Instead of using just the handle, I first press down on top. Then I use the handle to give it just a light press. A quick 180 degree flip and another light press and it comes out perfect. Less than 10 seconds! Now I can't quit using this thing. Wait until you try scrambled eggs and sausage for a breakfast tortilla! Or pizza toppings for a light lunch. Bananas and caramel sauce for desert......sorry, I got carried away. Could the handle be designed better for added strength? - Yes. But with a little care it shouldn't be a problem.

We have used this twice and on the second time the handle broke and by this point it was too late for a return. Not sure who to even contact to complain about it..Disappointed with the quality, you would think since it is cast iron it would be pretty solid but our experience proves the opposite.
