These paper dolls are adaptations of the genuine "fashion plates" originally published in Harper's Bazar (as it was then spelled), and as such have an authentic look about them that most modern interpretations don't. From an elaborately flounced and bustled pink-and-red walking dress of 1867 to simple wasp-waisted gowns of 1898, the four dolls model a total of 32 costumes (counting the ones in which they're portrayed), all with the trademark elaborate detailing of the era. Watch how bustles develop and diminish, only to return and shrink again, and marvel at the aniline colors considered attractive to Victorian eyes. Specific dates and perhaps explanatory notes would have improved it, but it's still a useful overview of the template female dress of a distinctive period in American history and style.

High quality paper dolls.These are well-researched and colorful and bright. They are such a pleasure to look at and cut The paper dolls are a really wonderful way to help kids really visualize history

I have made permanent paper doll stands from railings available from places like Home Depot or Lowes). If you have access to a table saw you can cut a groove into the top of the rounded part of the railing. I have found that 2" to 2-1/2" in length is good. Stain & varnish if you like. These really help to keep the dolls standing up & makes actual play more fun for children.
