We were fortunate enough to receive several Victorinox knives as weddings guests, including this knife. We decided to go with the Victorinox Fibrox knives based the positive reviews the knives have received from America's Test Kitchen over the years. Early on we noticed that there are two Victorinox knives that looked similar... the Fibrox and the Swiss Made. The major, and I think only distinction, between the two are the handles. However, it's a pretty big distinction. The Fibrox handles are a much softer nylon handle that is rounded with no ergonomic cuts, whereas the Swiss Made has a harder handle with ergonomic cuts that aren't all that comfortable. We registered for and received: chef's knives, pairing knives, boning knives, etc. In all instances BUT the boning knife we received the Swiss made knives not the Fibrox. After double checking the listings that the knives were purchased from, the Fibrox knives were in fact what people intended to buy. We thought this strange and did some more googling and what's odd is that the Fibrox listing on the Victorinox website has a headline that says "back by popular demand," and the price is double what the knives were going for when they were recommended by American's Test Kitchen a couple years ago. I wonder if there was a a warehouse issue somewhere and this listing never went away.

So, while the quality of the blades of the Swiss Made knives are fine, there seems to be something odd going on in either Amazon's warehouse or through Victorinox if they are shipping these on behalf of Amazon orders.

Sharp and has a very good handle grip even when my hands are wet. Just wish I ordered it with the handle for the Swiss Classic to match my other Victorinox knives. This is still good. I like the handle looks of the slightly curved Classic better. I am 64 years old and find this knife very comfortable to handle and use. It also looks much better in person than the photo. The sketching which looks like black on the blade is much ... much lighter so, I like that even better. Five (5) stars if I ordered it with the right handle ... my mistake.

Several years ago, after doing hours of research, my husband purchased 2 Victorinox Fibrox knives for me swearing they received the best reviews. After 3 uses, careful hand washing and care, both knives were dull. I own a professional sharpener which works beautifully on my Wusthof knives. Sadly, I was never able to get the Victorinox knives be as sharp as they were straight out of the box and they immediately dulled after one use. I am not exaggerating.

My father asked me to purchase a chef's knife for him for Father's Day and, after much research, I found the the Victorinox Fibrox knives get the best reviews. After comparing the ones I own to the description of the Fibrox and looking at the stamps on my own knives, I realized they were vastly different. I then thought that my husband had purchased the wrong set of Victorinox and the Fibrox is probably a higher quality for the company.

I purchased the Fibrox with much excitement. However, what I received today is the EXACT SAME KNIFE as the ones I own. I could not believe it. The one pictured is NOT the one that came in the mail. The knife that arrived does not have the word "Forschner" inscribed on it, nor does it have the word Fibrox engraved on the handle.

I don't know if Victorinox is pulling a bait and switch. They can tell me all they want, but I do not believe one for moment that the knife sent to me via Amazon is the same quality knife that is receiving the same rave reviews from my internet searches. Something is amiss here and I am suspicious.

I am returning the knife that was sent to me and looking for another brand.

I purchased this knife for two reasons: 1) America's Test Kitchen rates it their best chef knife and 2) my 40 year old Sabatier 8" chef knife while still in good shape and very satisfactory doesn't have the large blade that the Victorinox has.
I absolutely love the Victorinox and highly, highly recommend it to any one. The only thing the Sabatier does better is smash garlic due to its heavier, thicker blade.
I'm planning on getting the 12" granton edge Victorinox slicer in the near future.
By the way, the pronounciation of Victorinox according to their website is Victor-E-knocks.
If 10 stars were an option, I would give this knife a 10.

I purchased this knife as an experienced home cook. I had just researched sharpening knives, so I knew what this knife needed was a good steel instead of a stone to keep it sharp. I have had it for about 18 months and have had to sharpen it on a porcelain rod only two or three times, and that's because after every cooking session I give it a few strokes on my steel. It remains sharp enough to shave the hairs on my arm. I must say, though, that I use this knife only on vegetables, fruits, soft meats, and such. I use other knives to handle frozen items, deboning poultry, peeling pineapples, etc. It just makes sense that way.

I keep the knife clean and dry and hang it on a magnetic strip, and it has never rusted or spotted. The handle is very slip resistant and has not worn down since I bought it. I have been pleased with it, especially for the price I paid - about $39.

The only con I have found is that the blades finish is very smooth, and vegetables tend to cling to the surface of the knife until they're pushed off as you continue cutting - rolling and falling as you slice. The next knife I buy will have a textured surface to lessen the cling factor of food.

But until then, this is my go-to knife that I forbid everyone else in the house from using. They tend to treat knives like common utensils, but good knives are meant to be treated like family!
