However, that has no bearing on the rating, since the dimensions are listed. The quality of the item seems good; it's nicely finished, polished hardwood with the Victorinox logo on the side. I've added a user photo of the tray to the product listing, with some large knives in place.
As an "In-Drawer" cutlery tray, this should not be hung on a wall...
This is a hardwood, in-drawer knife tray, capable of holding 7 knives (3 large/long, and 4 small/short). It fits perfectly in my drawer, and it's currently holding an 8" chef's knife, a 10" bread knife, a 4" paring knife, and two 3.5" utility knives. They all fit perfectly & securely, and are simple to insert & remove.
Absolutely no complaints at all, at this point.
Product specs say this knife holder measures 16.9 x 4 x 1.9 inches. My drawer is over 1.9 inches deep. Keep in mind, though, that it is 1.9 inches deep BEFORE you add your knives. My drawer would not close when this holder had knives in it. This is not a product flaw...just a simple matter of geometry. So, get out a ruler, and measure your drawer to be sure this is the right holder for you.
Keep in mind, also, that the usefulness of this holder depends a LOT on your particular set of knives. I found that some fit the holder very well, while others did not:
* Short paring knives worked well, without exception.
* A Victorinox Swiss Army 8-Inch Fibrox Straight Edge Chef's Knife fit well
* A Yaxell Ran 5-Inch Santoku Knife, 1-Count was too short to fit in a large slot (the blade would end up resting on the base of the drawer), but too long to fit in a paring knife slot
* From the Wusthof Classic 5-Piece Studio Knife Set, I have a 6-inch chef's knife that fit well, but might fallen through like the Yaxell were it not for its wide bolster (the thickened steel at the heel of the blade) which kept the blade from resting on the base of the drawer
Anyway, it was hit and miss. There are so many knives out there that it is hard to predict whether your own knives will fit nicely in the holder. With the right knives, and a deep-enough drawer, this would be a great way to oranize your knives. It is a nice looking organizer, and feels very sturdy. Just be sure to check measurements before placing your order!
I chose this insead of the knife block because I want my knives to be stowed away in a drawer and not cluttering up my counter space. My first one is still going strong after 3 years althougth the finish on it was not as nice as it was when the thing was new. It has a clear coat finish and with use, it gets blade marks and scratches on it like any knife block. Once the finish starts getting scratched, I protect the wood by treating it with mineral oil every once in a while like I do for my wood and bamboo cutting boards. No complaints about this knife block. Works as intended and lasts a long time. I would recommend if you are considering this. Just measure your drawer before buying.

Fits perfectly in my drawer. However, it will slide, so I put shelf liner on the bottom and it stays put. It fits all my Victorinox knives perfectly.Published 4 months ago by JJS
