Yes, it's fine for every day time and chrono. But Diving is what its all about.
This is an ETA calibre 251.262. Which is an upper level quartz movement. It's deadly accurate, and it's hands are spot on their markings.
In the $500 range it's a bargin if it's the kind of watch you are looking for.
This is as close as you are going to get to water "PROOF" @ 730.54 lbs/ sq. inch (500M) or 49.69 Atmospheres.
Although, I'd have to see it to really believe it...:) And I'm NOT taking it down that far to find out!
EDIT: I should mention that although listed as a BLACK face in both the picture and the description, it's really GUN METAL GREY which matches the case and bezel and looks great.
A unique watch, I'm very happy with it.
Three days now and it's still dead on my Atomic clock w/ chronograph running.
I previously used a Victorinox Swiss Army Infantry watch for day to day wear. It's a very simple, classic watch which is well constructed. My biggest complaint with the watch was the lifespan of the leather band but that is easily remedied. Unfortunately, ever since I had the battery changed by a local jewelry shop, it's no longer waterproof (my mistake for not sending it in). Anyway, I was in the market for a new, water-resistant watch would I could wear everyday and intended to stick with Victorinox based on my previous experience.
While looking through the collection of Victorinox watches, I discovered this one. I really liked the look of the metal on this watch. This remains true after I received it. The gunmetal appearance is a little different than you average watch. The chronograph and date displays are attractive. The look is really nice.
I also appreciated the fact that it was a 'dive' watch and capable of being submerged to 500m. Whether or not this watch really can be used for diving is questionable. I'm not sure how easy it would be to read the chronograph or other illuminated markings when under water and it doesn't include a light, so I'm skeptical. I'm planning on attempting my first dive in a few weeks so we'll see how well it works for this purpose.
The 3rd selling point was the rubber band -- I was hoping that this would prove superior to the leather band on my previous one.Read more ›
I'm quite particular about tiny details, and I can tell you that this watch is engineered for perfection (or close to it). You can see a great deal of attention was paid to every detail; from the watch case to the alignment of the dials to the confident click/alignment of the bezel.
Although I have quite a small wrist, the watch doesn't look too big on me. In fact, its size & heft gives you a feeling that the watch is indestructible.
All in all, a great watch, a great tool. A job well done, Victorinox.
I sent the watch to a Victorinox authorized shop in Miami and they said they would have to replace the movement,case-back gasket, crown and do a water resistant test. All of this for around 400 dollars. I called Amazon back and they this time allowed my watch to be repaired through their authorized shop in Kentucky. I called them and will send them the watch hoping for the best.
I paid around 600 for the watch and 2 to 3 months after I purchased it I have to put 400 to get it fix. Be aware the problem is not that I drop it or hit it, it is simply defective. You would expect the warranty to cover these type of issues automatically. I will post again after I get the watch back from the shop.
Update Aug 30, 2013 . I received the watch from the Amazon watch shop in Kentucky and THEY DID NOT FIX IT !. This is ridiculous and frustrating. They gave me the watch with the exact same problem. The watch shop in Miami mail the watch to them with their diagnostic of the repairs needed. You would think it would be a straight forward repair. It is late at night an I have to wait until the morning to get on the phone and call Amazon. I am extremely disappointing with Amazon and their repair shop.
Update Sep 5 , 2013. I have been contacted and told watch will be repaired. I have been sent prepaid shipping. Good for Amazon.
Update Dec 5, 2013. My watch is fixed. No complaints. / P.S. I give it 3 stars because of the issues I experienced. If not I would have given it 4/5 stars.
